IAN MARTIN won’t be pressing the panic button with Hawarden Park rooted to the foot of the Premier Division table.

The Flintshire side, who saw home games against Chirk and Pwllheli washed out, were handed two heavy defeats on the road last weekend.

A new-look Park outfit were beaten by 167 runs at St Asaph before a heavily depleted XI lost by 275 runs at the hands of Bangor.

But captain Martin isn’t too concerned ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Llandudno, explaining: “St Asaph played well, but there are lots of positives to take out of the game.

“The new lads did well and we can build on that performance.

“We were missing nine players at Bangor due to it being Bank Holiday Monday. David Winter batted well, but overall losing both tosses didn’t help.

“We remain confident of giving Llandudno a good game with a strong XI.”

Clarkson McLeod will make his first team debut for Hawarden, who are able to call on the services of Jamie Brailsford, although Craig Wilson misses out.

While Park are in action, just down the road there’s a Flintshire derby clash between Northop and visiting Connah’s Quay.

Martin Burger saw his Quay side lose by 77 runs at the hands of Brymbo, who posted what looked to be a par score of 180 for six.

Matt Redinger (40) and David Fox (30) top scored as Quay were bowled out for 103 having been 64 for one.

“It’s a tough lesson to learn for us,” said captain Burger. “It’s not great to lose, but it was the first game of the season for us and it shows that net practice can only take you so far, it’s about getting out in the middle.

“It was one of those games where the wickets started to fall and they didn’t stop.”

On the trip to Northop, Burger continued: “It should be an interesting game. We will give them the respect they deserve, but we are going there looking to claim 15 points.

“We don’t really know what to expect from them because we’ve not played them for a number of years, but they won promotion and they’ve got good players.”

Northop are relishing the chance to claim the derby day spoils after a mixed weekend, which saw them beat Chirk by eight wickets before losing at Brymbo by 75 runs.

“It was nice to get our first win,” said team manager Dale Harley. “We produced a very good chase with Tom (Blackwell) and Harry (Lewis) impressing.

“We then lost vital wickets at vital times against Brymbo, but we will go into the Connah’s Quay clash confident.

“These are the type of games you want to be playing in. When we were looking to get back into the Premier Division we wanted to play in Flintshire derbies against the likes of Connah’s Quay.

“They’ve got their danger men and we will be wary of them but we are looking forward to the match.”

Darren Williams returns for Northop, who are without Harry Lewis, while Darren Jones is back for Quay, who are missing Shane Carlton and Lee Davies.
