Marchwiel and Wrexham held their nerve to kick-off their Division Two campaign with a two-wicket win at Mynydd Isa.

Paul Kearney (35) and Phil Bradfield (24) led the scoring as Isa posted 127 for seven having been asked to bat first.

Michael Forgrave (33) got Marchwiel’s reply off to a solid start, but the away side slipped to 83 for five as Danny Sprake claimed 3-17.

Marchwiel regrouped however, Nick Husbands anchoring the run chase to finish unbeaten on 49 as the Wrexham side won with nine balls to spare.

Carmel and District lost a closely fought contest at Ruthin by two wickets.

After their top order faltered, Derek Johnson (20 not out) and Ben Sim (18no) took Carmel to 118 for seven from their 45 overs, Llyr Williams pocketing 4-17.

Rising star Rohit Kaimal (3-35) and Jack Whitehouse (2-24) gave Carmel a glimmer of defending their total, but Ruthin had just enough to get over the line with 20 balls to spare.

Gresford Seconds' claimed the bragging rights as they defeated rivals Brymbo Seconds by four wickets in a low scoring Second XI Premier Division contest.

Alex Morton helped himself to 4-5 from his 10 overs as nine-man Brymbo were rolled out for just 45, although that total proved harder to chase than Gresford expected.

Despite 21 from Craig Morse, Gresford lost six wickets in the chase, Wayne Smith starring with the ball for Brymbo with 5-9.

Pontblyddyn Seconds were unable to start the season with a win as they lost to Bangor Seconds by 48 runs.

Bangor were able to post 166 for seven, thanks mainly to Peter Jones’ 74, a total which proved enough as Pontblyddyn were bowled out for 118 in reply.

Daz Wilcock hit 40 for Pontblyddyn, but he lacked support elsewhere as the Flintshire side were beaten.

Northop Seconds will count themselves unfortunate not to have started their campaign with a win after losing by two wickets to Menai Bridge Seconds.

Mark Allman (32) and Liam Moores (26) were the standout performers as Northop were bowled out for 121.

Northop's new ball pairing of Paul Cartwright (3-15) and Moores (3-30) threatened to win their side the game, but Callum Andrews' 47, on top of Daniel Surgey's 37, got Menai over the line.

Gwersyllt Park Seconds made an impressive start to the Second XI East Division campaign as they beat Mold Seconds by six wickets.

Lewis Cole and Jack Watkins bagged three wickets apiece for Gwersyllt to restrict Mold to just 107 for eight, Ewan Hill top scoring with 38.

Harry Archer got Gwersyllt over the line in their run chase with an undefeated 31, picking up where Daniel Jones (24) and Cole (18) left off.

Connah's Quay Seconds showed no signs of rustiness as they overcame Halkyn Seconds by 91 runs.

Rhys Stout top scored with 65 for Quay, who posted 187 for five, Aaron Pearson (30), Kieran Coppack (24) and Callum Jones (23no) also in the runs.

Quay's bowling attack then proved far too strong for a new-look Halkyn, who were bundled out for 96, 39 of which were extras.

In the wickets for Quay were Mali Auty (3-6), Jack Griffiths (3-11) and Jake Chare (2-7).

Rhewl (118-1) recorded a convincing nine-wicket home win over Ruthin Seconds (114-9).

Robert Gater hit an unbeaten 48 as Conwy Seconds (113-6) overcame Dolgellau Seconds (109-9) by four runs in the Second XI West Division, while Abergele Seconds (145) beat Llandudno Seconds (51) by 94 runs.
