DAVID LLOYD declared himself ‘over the moon’ after reaching his maiden first-class century for Glamorgan.

Lloyd, who grew up in Wrexham and came through the junior ranks at Brymbo, struck 105 off 135 balls before retiring out in Glamorgan’s first-class friendly against Cardiff MCCU at Sophia Gardens on Tuesday.

The all-rounder, who came agonisingly close to achieving the milestone last season when making 92 against Norhamptonshire in a County Championship fixture, brought up his century with a six after an agonising wait on 99 not out for three overs.

The 23-year-old, who was Glamorgan’s young player of the year in 2015 having topped the batting averages among the regular batsmen, will hope to kick on with more runs when Glamorgan begin their Division Two campaign at home to Leicestershire on Sunday.

“Obviously I’m over the moon to finally achieve it,” the 23-year-old all-rounder told Glamorgan’s official website.

“It’s been a good old winter with good preparation so to get out here and see the hard work pay off, it feels good.

“It was one of those days where it fell to me to push on and get a big score.

“I was hitting the ball nicely and it was a good effort.

“I’ll hopefully be able to take that form into the County game against Leicestershire on Sunday if lucky enough to be selected.

“Hopefully I can have a good season with the first-team, get plenty of runs and take some wickets.”

It was also a memorable day for Aneruin Donald, who completed his maiden first-class ton reaching the same score of 105, and the England under 19 international said: “It feels really good.

“It's nice to finally tick it off because it was looming over me for a bit since last year but I'm really happy.

“I felt I was really hitting the ball well and I’m looking forward to the proper season starting now.

“As a club we're in the ideal situation going into the season.

“Throughout the winter we strengthened as a club and there's competition for places across the board and everyone's in form.

“It was great for David as well, to get two maiden hundreds in a day is pretty special.

“I like batting with Dave, it takes pressure of you at the other end when he’s whacking it around. Getting to his hundred with a six as well, it’s one way to do it!

“With Crofty in charge there’s a really good vibe in the dressing room.

“All the boys are striking it well in the nets and the bowlers are raring to go.”
