Chester’s eagerly anticipated pre-season fixture against Liverpool will remain a 3pm kick-off despite calls to avoid a clash with England’s World Cup quarter-final.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds are set to field a strong side against the Blues for Saturday's encounter which is a 4,500 sell-out, that now clashes directly with England's huge last eight tie against Sweden.

Chester had confirmed on Wednesday they were in dialogue with Liverpool over bringing the match forward to either 12 noon, or 1pm, but after consultations it was deemed too difficult a ‘logistical challenge’ to accommodate a late switch.

A statement on Chester’s website reads: ‘Chester FC can confirm that Saturday’s first pre season game against Liverpool FC will remain as a 3pm kick off.

‘Following England’s victory in the World Cup (Tuesday night), we made every attempt to move the game, but logistically this proved a major challenge given all match tickets had been sold, and other aspects relating to matchday arrangements were unable to rearrange at short notice.

‘We would like to thank Liverpool FC for their help in reviewing arrangements and look forward to hosting them on Saturday.’

The game represents a first in charge for new Blues bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley, with several summer signings set to make their debuts.

Liverpool are set to hand debuts to star signings Fabinho and Naby Keita, as well including the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Gini Wiynaldum.

Liverpool have announced their friendly at Tranmere Rovers - originally scheduled for next Wednesday - has been brought forward 24 hours to avoid a potential clash with a World Cup semi-final tie which would involve England if they beat Sweden.
