HOCKEY: Round up - 26.11.09

Northop Hall ended their run of five straight defeats with a narrow 3-2 victory over bottom of the league Knutsford.

Nick Critchley applied a simple finish at the back post after a precise through-ball from Si Hodgkinson, before Neil Worrall applied a deft deflection to Paul Cochran’s thunderous cross.

Ian Warren notched Hall’s winner when he was afforded time in the ‘D’ after good work by Alistair Brown and Dave Chacksfield.

Wrexham were on the wrong end of an 8-5 scoreline as Southport clinched all three points.

Ben Williams (2), Sean Evans, Ben Candy, and Nick Davies found the target for Wrexham, who would have been expecting a victory having scored five goals.

Wrexham endured more disappointment a day later as they crashed out of the Welsh Cup quarter-finals, losing to Swansea Bay 5-4 on penalties.

Nick Davies handed Wrexham the lead after good work from Matthew Whelan, but Bay hit back to level with a break away down the right.

Swansea stepped up and slotted away all five of their strokes as Phil Roberts was unable to continue his earlier form and a missed stroke from the home side saw them out.

Chester’s long trip to Stockton on Tees was worthwhile as they returned with a 3-2 victory.

Chester were the first to break the deadlock when a penalty corner was converted by Phil Roper from the top of the 'D'.

Andy Dixon scored from close range after the break and  Roper netted the decisive third from another penalty corner routine.

Northop Hall seconds clinched their first away victory of the season with an excellent 2-0 win over Northwich.

The first goal came after Rhys Price and Ed Jones’ neat work landed to Lewys Taylor and he slotted home his first goal of the season.

Ben Griffiths added a second with a fine solo run and strike.

Hall thirds edged out local rivals Wrexham seconds 1-0 at Glyndwr University, Jim Doerr scoring the only goal.

Hall’s Ian Randles and Del Schaeffer put in excellent performances, while Wrexham’s Emile Reynaud and Matt Forrest performed strongly.

Wrexham thirds fell to a 5-0 defeat at Runcorn seconds while Deeside thirds found themselves back on form as they overcame Mossley Hill 4-2.

Guy Fennel, Rob Thomason, Ed Lowe, and Phil Winward all on target in the closely contested encounter.

Northop Hall fourths suffered their fifth successive loss in North West Division Nine South, losing 4-2 to Bramhall, while the fifths stumbled to a 3-3 draw against Llandudno thirds at Hawarden.

John Ketland, Dave Chackfield, and Ed Jones were on the scoresheet.
Chester seconds were beaten 3-2 in their derby encounter with Deeside Ramblers.

Chester had a man sent off and despite goals from Guy Davies, the Ramblers made the extra man advantage count.

Adam Elliott  scored Chester Thirds’ winer in a 2-1 victory over Colwyn Bay Seconds while the fourths beat Deeside fifths 3-2.

Deeside sevenths won, seeing off Wilmslow 4-0.
Warwick Platt netted a hat-trick in his first game in three years, while Henry Dakin added the fourth.
