ATTACKS have been given most of the plaudits during a goal-den North East Wales Girls’ League season.

However, it’s finally time to make a case for the defence!

There was a real rarity as Mynydd Isa U14s and Corwen played out a 0-0 draw in the latest round of U15s’ division action.

Back to the goals theme and there were hat-tricks for Faye Hand and Mollie Edge as Airbus U14s defeated Brymbo Lodge 9-1. Rhian Fricker, Lady Acquay and Ellie Frizzell added to the tally, as Elyse Richards replied.

Summer Dakin netted five times in Buckley Town U14s’ 8-0 outcome at Northop Hall Falcons U14s, with Evie Hughes, Georgia Payne and Lexi Jones adding the others.

Meanwhile, Acton U14s got the better of Brickfield Rangers 4-1 courtesy of Maisie Sutcliffe (3) and Lexi Jones. Seren Carr hit back for Brickfield.

In midweek, Brymbo Lodge beat Corwen 5-1, it finished 3-2 in favour of Buckley U14s versus Airbus U14s, Northop Hall Jets U14s won 8-0 at Mynydd Isa U14s and Buckley Town defeated Northop Hall Falcons U14s 4-1.

There was a four-goal haul for Jets’ Lily Manchester, plus hat-tricks by Buckley U15s’ Scarlett Foster-Noble and Brymbo Lodge’s Nicole Szczawinska.

It was mainly about the close contests in the U13s’ division.

Iris Haslam-Bates’ goal settled Brickfield’s 1-0 success versus Mynydd Isa U12s, while Brymbo Lodge pipped Northop Hall U12s 2-1.

Olivia Pugh and Brianna Doughty won it, as an own goal provided the Hall response.

Anesu Mabwe (2) and Elin D’Auria led Ruthin Town to a 3-2 verdict versus Mynydd Isa Spartans, who responded via Sioned Jones’ brace.

Alis Jones (4), Santi Owen (3) and Grace Threadgold made sure of Brymbo Lodge U12s’ 8-1 victory over Buckley Town (Charlotte Hynes).

In midweek, Tallulah Wynn netted a magnificent seven goals as Brickfield Rangers got the better of battling Lodge U12s 9-0. Annabelle Griffiths and Seren Hooson also struck.

The Adran U19s’ North season will draw to a close this evening. Airbus, aiming for their first win of the season, travel to The New Saints for the concluding match.

While champions Connah’s Quay Nomads came up short in their quest for the national title with Sunday’s defeat to Barry, the future is looking bright.

Nomads’ manager Jordan Parry told the club’s website: “We have a long term vision and want to create a sustainable model with young players that we hope can achieve regular Adran Premier football. This takes time, patience and structure, especially without financial backing.

“My job is to create an elite, fun, challenging and competitive environment that entices players to return to the next session or sign for the team itself and myself and staff feel we have done that over the three seasons we have been working together.”
