WHAT an end to the season it could turn out to be for Gresford Athletic.

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ charges, who bring the curtain down on their Cymru North season with tonight’s home clash with Prestatyn Town, are through to the semi-finals of the North East Wales FA Challenge Cup.

Gresford, last season’s runners-up in the cup, got the better of hosts Ruthin Town 1-0 in the last-eight.

Jake Roberts set up substitute Alex Buxton for the only goal of the tie two minutes from time.

In-form Chirk AAA bid farewell to Cymru North with this evening’s trip to The Globe to tackle Buckley Town.

It will be the final match in charge for Chirk boss Gary Jones and a post on the club’s X side said: “@Garyjonesdeco, First Team Manager, will leave the club at the end of the season.

“Gary, who has been at the club for 2 seasons, has reluctantly decided to step down due to family commitments. The travelling for match days and training nights have restricted Gary on family time and he has decided to step down.

“The club would like to thank Gary for his commitment and dedication he has shown in his time at the club & wish him well for the future.

“We are actively seeking a replacement and we are hoping to appoint a new manager in the coming weeks.”

There is one match scheduled for tomorrow as Llanidloes Town play host to Bangor 1876.
