NATIONAL glory has been secured by a clutch of boxers in the region.

There was a strong representation from North East Wales in the finals weekend for the Welsh Novice Championships.

Three members from Wrexham Boxing Club were hugely impressive in winning national titles.

It was a stunning return for the club, who had four boxers heading south to compete in the event at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre.

Jack Williams and Rhys Jones had already made it through to their respective finals and they completed the job with triumphs.

Jake Jones had to come through semi-final and final bouts to emulate his clubmates.

Wrexham’s Lloyd Davies also impressed and he was pipped in a hard-fought semi-final encounter.

Adding to the success stories, two members of Mold Boxing Club have also become national champions. The dynamic duo are Rhys Evans and Ethan Edwards.

Mold Boxing Club coach Mike Phillips said: “As a coach I could not ask for more from all the boxers who represented Mold to the highest standard inside and outside the ring. That’s what this sport is about, making memories to last a lifetime while pushing yourself to be the best boxer and most respectful person you can be. Wales boxing should be proud of the talent that was on show in Ebbw Vale, the future looks bright.”

Plas Madoc Leisure Centre, in Acrefair, played host to the championship preliminary round and quarter-finals, when hundreds of boxers took part.
