DEAN KEATES  hailed the team spirit in his new-look Wrexham squad and says the Portugal training camp will make bonds even stronger.

Wrexham headed out to the Algarve yesterday, with the Reds facing Louletano DC tomorrow during their four-day trip.

All 11 summer signings, five players who remain from last season’s squad plus two trialists are in the party, and Keates is looking forward to seeing the squads team-bonding continue to grow.

“A lot of the lads know each other. They travel in together in little car schools and they have all been separated to get to know somebody else,” said Keates.

“There is a great bond amongst them, you can see them all laughing and joking and everybody is getting on together.

“These four days away can only make it stronger, this can only enhance it.

“The good thing about it is they are not just pals. They question each other and if somebody is not doing it in training, they get on each other’s back.

“What has been said on the training ground when people have been questioned, to take it on the chin and learn from it, and they all get back on in the changing room.

“So far it has gone really well. More than happy with it. We have gone through two weeks, we have had some tough days, we have had no niggles so long may that continue.”
