PRESTATYN Town began life without joint-manager Leon Field with a 3-2 home loss to Ruthin Town.

The Seasiders had nothing to show for their efforts despite a spirited fightback in the closing stages, and they face another huge week of action as they look to get themselves off the Huws Gray Alliance basement.

Town face a trip to a resurgent Denbigh Town side on Tuesday night, before welcoming Penrhyncoch to the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

The home side made a strong start to proceedings and almost went ahead with two opportunities early on from Aaron White and Ian Griffiths, but both were unable to convert and they were made to pay on 25 minutes when Tomos Williams produced a superb individual piece of skill before firing a low drive past Christian Wright from a tight angle.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who spurned multiple chances to get back on level terms for the remainder of the first period, with Chris Bennett and Griffiths spurning the best chances during a spell that saw Town enjoy the majority of possession.

They were dealt another hammer blow in first half stoppage time when Chris Williams’ men doubled their advantage thanks to a towering header from a corner by Matty Evans.

After the interval saw last season’s league top scorer Llyr Morris force Wright into a superb close range stop after 62 minutes, but he could to nothing to deny the striker from adding a third moments later when he latched on to a looping kick from visiting custodian Ryan Goldston before slotting home with 70 gone.

Credit to the home side, they kept plugging away and were given a lifeline on 87 minutes when Griffiths continued his impressive scoring run since re-joining the club with an effort from close range, and a nervy ending to proceedings was ensured two minutes later when Matty Griffiths further reduced the arrears with his first goal for the club since joining from Meliden.

Town had a penalty shout waved off in stoppage time after Ian Griffiths collided with Goldston in what turned out to be the last notable incident of the game.
