Gwersyllt and Chirk Under-15s completed a league and cup double by beating Northop Hall to win the Flintshire Knockout.

The combined junior side, who had already won the North East Wales League title, restricted hosts Hall to 130 with an impressive bowling performance.

Gwersyllt first team opener Ethan McCarthy helped his side to 43 without loss from the first 10 overs, the youngster eventually departing for 38 with the visitors' 80 for one.

With just six overs left and needing 51 to win, Lewis Cole, who has been a regular in the Gwersyllt senior side, smashed 43 not out to see his side to victory with two balls remaining.

Coach Phil Huckridge was delighted with the success, tweeting: "Finally composed myself after yesterdays u15s exploits. What a game of cricket, with @GwersylltCC chasing down 131 runs with just 2 balls to spare.

"Thanks must go out to @NorthopHall_CC for the game and the hospitality, very enjoyable. Two best teams in NE Wales at this level."

The success of the Under-15s completed a summer to remember for Gwersyllt, who claimed three further pieces of silverware.

Gwersyllt's first and second XIs won the Division Two and Second XI East Division league titles, while the club's midweek team won Division Three of the Chester and District competition.

Huckridge added: "What a season for @GwersylltCC."
