Andy Thomas has challenged his Airbus players to sustain their impeccable start in tomorrow's League Cup first round clash against Holywell Town.

The Wingmakers have been in ominous form early on, winning all seven of their games in all competitions and conceding just four times.

Assistant manager Thomas said: "We're out to win every game we go into this season.

"Whether that's in the league or in the cups, we want to keep this run going for as long as possible.

"There's more of a balance this year between our defensive strength and how well we attack and that has definitely helped us.

"We know Holywell will come here looking to knock us out and we're prepared for a very tough game.

"But our main focus is on ourselves and how we can hurt them."

Gareth Sudlow insists that his Holywell side are relishing the chance to derail the challenge of their Flintshire rivals.

A patchy start has seen the Wellmen collect just one win seven outings in all competitions so far.

But, in his first season in charge at the club, Sudlow says that cup glory is an attainable target this term.

He said: "It's a competition we'd love to win. It's only three games before you're in the final and it's cup we should be looking to win.

"We're looking forward to going there (Airbus). They've made an excellent start and with the players they've brought in they look like they mean business this season.

"We're looking to improve on one or two things like set-pieces before we get there because we've not dealt with them too well so far.

"We also need to be more clinical too, because Airbus have the quality to punish us if we don't take our chances."

Former Wellmen midfielder Brady McGilloway will line-up for Airbus, who also have Phil Clarke and Sebastian Pawlak available for the first time this season.

Holywell have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the cup clash after last weekend's draw against Conwy Borough.

Flint Town United have a squad capable of fighting for both league and cup honours, according to manager Niall McGuinness.

Winners of the competition last season, the Silkmen go into their first round clash with Holyhead Hotspur buoyed by a 7-1 hammering of Ruthin last time out.

And McGuinness, who passed his Uefa A Licence this week, insists he now has the depth of talent at his disposal to fight on two fronts this term.

He said: “Winning this competition was a big moment for me and the club, I think.

“It was our first trophy in my time as manager here and it gave the fans something to celebrate as we went into the end of the season.

“The trophy’s there to be won again now and we want to do all we can to defend it. With the additions we’ve made to the squad in the summer added to the quality we already had - it’s made us much stronger.

“We’re second in the league right now, which is up where we want to be. But there’s no reason why we can’t fight for both - there’s real depth here and we know our squad can cope.

“The confidence is high after the Ruthin game and now we want to maintain that type of attacking quality against Holyhead.”

Full-back Jack Lewis is suspended for the game following his dismissal last weekend, while recent signing Damien Ketley could feature against one of his former clubs.

Ketley, pictured, has headed to Cae-y-Castell from Holywell with McGuinness saying: “Damo is a player I’ve followed closely over the last few seasons, and it’s nice to finally be able to work with him, as I know what ability and tremendous potential he has.

“I would also like to thank Holywell Town for their assistance in facilitating the transfer.”

On his passing his A Licence, McGuinness added: “Delighted to have been given the news I have passed my UEFA A Licence.

“Massive thank you to my mentor @albickerstaff for supporting & guiding me through it & everyone at @FAWCoachEd for your support.

“Looking forward to continuing my coaching journey.”

Steve Halliwell insists his Gresford Athletic side will ‘go all out’ to cause a cup upset at Bangor City tomorrow.

The Colliers have struggled in the early stages of their league campaign, but ended a three-game losing streak by beating Rhyl last weekend.

Craig Harrison’s side have also laboured in the first month of the Cymru Alliance season, losing three times already this term.

Now Halliwell, has targeted a strong cup run as his side look to establish some positive momentum.

He said: “Winning breeds confidence and we’re going into the game on the back of one of the best performances I’ve seen from my team.

“We were excellent against Rhyl and hopefully it’s a performance that has helped us turn a corner.

“The lads are full of confidence after it and we’ll be going all out to get ourselves into the next round of the cup.

“Bangor are the biggest side in this league and with money they’ve got available the expectation there is for them to do very well this season.

“All the pressure is on them on Saturday, so we’re going to try to capitalise on that.

“We play them in the league next week, so it’ll be interesting to see how they set up.”

Gresford travel with a full-strength squad for the cup tie with Halliwell set to name an unchanged side, meaning Jordan Maccarter, Sam Molyneux and Simon Smith could lead the line once more, ahead of midfield dynamo Jack Chaloner.

Tomorrow’s other first round games see Ruthin, who are looking to bounce back from their 7-1 mauling at the hands of Flint, host Guilsfield, Penrhyncoch head to Prestatyn, Rhyl entertain Denbigh and Llanrhaeadr head to Gareth Thomas’ Conwy.
