ANDY MORRISON believes Connah’s Quay Nomads must produce the ‘perfect performance’ more often than not if they are to win top-flight football matches.

Morrison was left frustrated on Tuesday night as newly promoted Caernarfon Town left the Deeside Stadium with all three points, courtesy of Jamie Breese’s strike.

While The New Saints, Bala Town and Nomads are generally thought to be battling it out for the top three spots in the league, Morrison is well aware that any of the other nine teams can cause an upset.

Nomads failed to take their chances against Caernarfon, who produced one moment of quality to secure their midweek win, forcing Morrison to say: “So close are the margins in this league against certain teams, you’ve got to make sure you do everything perfect and we got it wrong once.

“It was very frustrating.

“You think you might get a flat performance after the euphoria of the weekend, but it was anything but a flat performance. I thought we were very good and we dominated most of the game.

“The danger of counter-attacks, which is something they are strong at, was something that we were mindful of and the one time they did get in behind us they were clinical and they scored.

“After that it is about us trying to find a way through, trying to create a little bit of quality - a pull-back, a cross or something like that.

“We got in probably 10 times, we got in more times than at any time I’ve been at this club, but our quality and decision making was very, very poor.

“It was poor in the sense of our end product, but everything else was good. I thought the lads’ minds were present, they were on the pitch and at it, but once you go 1-0 down against Caernarfon it’s going to be tough because they can sit in, soak up pressure and they’ve got the counter-attack.

“The way we play, we create loads of opportunities to have corners, which we do because we tend to look to go on the outside and get crosses in that do get blocked.

“We had nine corners in the second-half and didn’t really look like scoring, that’s credit to Caernarfon.”

Morrison will be looking for a better attacking display tonight against visiting Newtown, who are coming into the clash on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Carmarthen.

Newtown midfielder Steven Leslie said: “It is important we bounce back. Connah’s Quay will be tough, they are a physical side but we will prepare right.”
