NORTHOP HALL are ready for their biggest game in years as they head to St Helens Town with the Division Two title in their grasp.

The Flintshire outfit make the trip to Ruskin Drive two points clear of Old Xaverians and some 17 ahead of Caldy with all three teams capable of securing both the title and promotion.

Hall need to pick up at least nine points on their travels tomorrow to finish ahead of Caldy, something that captain Dave Kennedy knows is only really possible by securing victory.

"Nine is the maximum amount of bonus points you can get in a game, but it doesn't happen," said Kennedy. "Caldy will go all out for all 25 against Sutton, so we need to win really.

"It's a good position to be in knowing a win will secure promotion.

"It's our biggest game for three or four years and everyone is up for the battle, which is important because we will need all of our grit and determination against Sutton."

Does Kennedy mind if Hall return to Division One as runners-up?

Kennedy, who has seen the first XI win the Flintshire Knockout this season, said: "Some of the lads have been talking about it and saying how they want to win the league.

"Personally I'm not too bothered because I know that promotion is the most important thing.

"But we are top of the league going into the final weekend of the season, so to go up as champions would be good."

Kennedy also admitted that he will be keeping a close eye on proceedings elsewhere in the third tier.

Caldy host Sutton (St Helens) and Old Xaverians make their way to Spring View, Kennedy continuing: "Everything is on the play cricket website, so we will be able to check up on what is happening.

"I expect Caldy and Old Xaverians both to win, but they are up against teams that aren't all that bad on their day, much like we are.

"The weather is the other element and hopefully all three teams play and the best teams come out on top."

Hall will name an unchanged XI from the one that was due to play in last weekend's cancelled home clash with Caldy, meaning Alex Smith remains sidelined.

While Hall first XI are chasing promotion, Hall Seconds need to avoid defeat to fellow strugglers Birkenhead Park to avoid being relegated from the Second XI First Division.

Hall Under-15s, meanwhile, tackle a combined Gwersyllt and Chirk side in the Flintshire Cup final at Smithy Lane on Sunday morning.

Jamie Griffiths' youngsters will be looking to follow on from the success of the Under-18s (126), who won the Cheshire League Cup against Grappenhall (117).
