RHYL and District secured their first win of the WRU National League Division Two North season and secured derby bragging rights in the process thanks to a resounding 50-19 win at Abergele.

The Dragons set a blistering pace which resulted in three tries within the opening ten minutes of the clash as the home side were unable to cope with a constant barrage of impressive attacking sequences.

A fourth try by Jason Blackmore before half time secured the bonus point.

The away side did not have it all their own way as they were pinned in the corner defending their own line and pressure told as Gele scored a converted try to make the score 26-7 at the break.

After the interval saw the visitors continue to dominate proceedings with centre Stu Fell-Crook crossing for his third try of the contest, and this was followed by Reeve Wright claiming his second score.

Richie Williams and Lock Simon Roberts also got in on the act with a score apicee late on, with the former slotting over five of his eight conversion attempts.

Gele brought some respectability with two tries of their own during the closing exchanges, but it did not take the gloss off a very encouraging display for the Dragons as they look to make a challenge for promotion as the season progresses.

Rhyl also turned a youth team out for the first time in two years with a trip to play an experienced Ruthin side.

Coach Angus Garbutt took a team made entirely of last season’s U16 side into the clash, and despite a spirited effort they were no match for their opponents and fell to a 51-0 reverse.
