AKIL WRIGHT has scooped a top award and Sam Ricketts believes the midfielder can enjoy a hugely successful playing career.

Wright, ever present Wrexham this season, has been named the National League player of the month for August.

Ricketts feels it is thoroughly deserved and says Wright, who has helped the Reds emerge as one of the early pacesetters, can get better.

"It is brilliant," said Ricketts. "Akil is a young player who has got so much going for him.

"He has got so much still to improve on which is the magnificent thing.

"He is playing as well as he is but there are areas of his game he can improve on and then it is down to him then how far his career goes.

"It is great recognition for him personally but it is a culmination of the team doing so well that he has won Player of the Month."

Nearly 5,400 fans saw Wright and his team-mates begin September by drawing 0-0 with Halifax Town in Tuesday's top of the clash.

Although Wrexham never won, Ricketts appreciated the support and hopes to keep entertaining fans.

"I know it was 0-0, we want to win games but we want fans to enjoy watching the game so that they are entertained, and they keep supporting and backing us," said Ricketts.

"The fans have been magnificent this season and we need to keep making them enjoy their football so they keep coming back and keep encouraging and pushing on the team.

"We are going to need that if we are going to be successful this season."
