WREXHAM clinched a 2-0 victory against Cymru Alliance outfit Airbus in their second pre-season friendly.

New signing Mike Fondop and captain Shaun Pearson scored the goals in the first half as boss Sam Ricketts, who had new assistant manager Graham Barrow in the dug-out with him for the first time, saw his side make it two wins in a row.

Fondop headed over with an early chance but the striker put Wrexham ahead in the 11th minute.

Nicky Deverdics threaded a superb through ball which Fondop ran onto and he coolly slotted past Airbus keeper David Roberts.

Luke Young's low drive was saved by Roberts who also gathered Chris Holroyd's shot as Wrexham continued to press.

Fondop headed wide from Leo Smith's cross but Wrexham scored the second goal they have been threatening on 19 minutes.

Good build-up play led to Deverdics' powerful drive tipped over the bar by Roberts but Pearson tapped home from close range from the resulting corner, although Airbus claimed the goalkeeper had been fouled.

Wrexham goalkeeper Christian Dibble made a comfortable save from Curtis Strong with Airbus' first opportunity, and Kevin Roberts picked out Deverdics who was too high with a header.

Fondop, having his first pre-season run-out, was replaced by Paul Rutherford after 31 minutes but the change didn't affect Wrexham and Manny Smith was unable to convert a cross from the Reds substitute.

Airbus almost pulled a goal back just before the break, a cross wasn't cleared and a trialist struck the bar with Asa Hamilton's follow-up blocked.

Ricketts rang the changes for the second half with youth team players making up the majority of the side and one of them, centre-back Bobby Beaumont, struck the post with a header.

Cameron McGregor weaved his way through the Airbus defence but failed to hit the target while the hosts had two half chances that were dealt with by Dibble.

Sam Pilkington's effort was tipped over by Roberts as Wrexham's youngsters continued to get into some good positions and Rutherford cut inside from the right flank and was denied by Roberts.

Pilkingon fired wide with only Roberts to beat after good work by McGregor, and it finished 2-0 to the Reds.
