Must do better. That’s the half term report from Chirk and Hawarden Park as they strugglers prepare to head-to-head tomorrow.

Rock-bottom Chirk are yet to win a game this season, amassing just 19 points from the first 11 games of the campaign, while Hawarden Park have fared only marginally better.

The Flintshire side have picked up one win from the first part of the season, which has left them 11th in the table with 28 points to their name.

Chirk captain Andrew Swarbrick insists that his side can get themselves out of danger, but they have to be better in all aspects of the game.

On whether his side can avoid a return to Division One, Swarbrick, who saw his side lost by 189 runs at Denbigh last weekend after the home side had posted 319 for five, said: “I’m always confident. I was even confident at the halfway stage against Denbigh last Saturday.

“I’m excited for the game because I’ve said that the next few weeks are massive for us and they are even bigger now after we lost to Denbigh.”

On propping up the division at the midway stage, Swarbrick continued: “It’s not ideal and it’s certainly not where we wanted to be.

“We need to get ourselves out of trouble and the only way of doing that is by pushing ourselves and not folding when things get difficult.

“We need a bit of luck as well.”

Hawarden Park suffered a four-wicket defeat at home to fellow strugglers Connah’s Quay last weekend to cap off a frustrating first-half of the campaign.

Captain Ian Martin is hopeful his side can turn their form around, but is taking things a game at a time.

“It’s been tough,” said Martin. “Not being able to put out a settled side has been an issue for us, and if that improves so will our form.

“A victory against Chirk could be the start of an upturn in form. A win would certainly bring some confidence back.

“We will keep working hard and there is enough ability at the club for results to improve.”

Craig Wilson misses out for Hawarden Park, while James Carter and Billy Swarbrick return for Chirk, who are without Gareth Partridge, Steve Kelshaw and Adam Shillcock.

Connah’s Quay are targeting a perfect home record between now and the end of the season in their bid for top-flight survival.

A four-wicket victory at Hawarden has made it two wins in three matches for Quay, who are within seven points of ninth placed Gresford.

Seven of Quay’s final 11 matches are at Central Park - starting with tomorrow’s visit of Denbigh - and captain Martin Burger hopes that will play into his side’s hands.

“Our confidence is getting better,” said Burger. “The aim now is to now lose a home game between now and the end of the season.

“We have seven of our last 11 matches at home, which is really good, and we want to capitalise on that.

“If we win all seven games it will put is into a safe position after a terrible start to the season and give us the opportunity to start again next year.”

Scott Adams returns for Quay, who are able to call on all-rounder Mitch Van Wyk once again.

NORTHOP want to try and recreate their home form on the road over the second phase of the campaign.

The Flintshire have won five of their six matches at Flint Road, the other success coming at Chirk.

In contrast, Northop have suffered defeats at Menai Bridge, Brymbo, Llandudno and Pwllheli - something team manager Dale Harley wants to try and put right.

“It’s been a decent first part of the season,” said Harley. “We want to try and take our home form away from home now, that’s the main aim for the rest of the year.

“We showed we can mix it with the teams near the top last week when we beat St Asaph, so we want to try and put right the away defeats, which have all been heavy.”

Jordan Evans is set to mark his return to Northop as they welcome undefeated league leaders Menai Bridge to Flint Road tomorrow.

“It’s a massive plus having Jordan available,” added Harley. “We are in good form and Jordan’s return will hopefully add fuel to the fire.”

Brymbo captain James Claybrook, meanwhile, wants to try and lead his side to an unbeaten second-half of the season.

The Wrexham-based outfit are third in the Premier Division, 32 points adrift of leaders Menai.

And Claybrook and his side want to be in a position to try and take advantage if Menai slip up.

“The first-half of the season has been promising,” said Claybrook.

“I don’t think we’ve bowled badly all season and the batting has improved considerably last few weeks, so we are confident we can keep winning going into the second-half of the season.

“I definitely believe we are capable of winning every game.”

Claybrook and Connor Davies return for Brymbo as they head to Pwllheli, but Dan Parry and Matty Turner miss out.

Gresford, who will be looking to improve in the second-half of the season to avoid a relegation scrap, host Bangor tomorrow.

Elsewhere, second placed St Asaph make their way to Llandudno, who are three places and 13 points worse off than their visitors.
