CHORLEY have appointed Andy Preece to their new-look management team.

The former Airbus boss will be part of recently appointed manager Jamie Vermiglio's team at Victory Park, working under the new man alongside Jamie Smith.

Preece, who led Airbus to three successive Europa League qualifications and a Welsh Cup final, is delighted to be heading to Chorley.

“Jamie played for me at Northwich and we’ve kept in touch ever since," former Wrexham striker Preece told the club's official website.

"We always chat about football and like to see how each other is doing, so I was very interested to be involved when he asked me.

“He’s an infectious character and someone I think will do really well as a manager. I’ve seen many games at Chorley and I can’t wait for the season to start now. The role might take a bit of getting used to, but I’m extremely happy to be onboard."

Vermiglio, who replaced Matt Jansen in the Magpies' hotseat, was delighted to have been able to bring ex-Bury and Northwich boss Preece to the club.

“When I played for Andy at Northwich I really liked the way he worked,” Vermiglio told the club’s website. “He’s a manager really, so we weren’t sure he’d be interested, but when he said he was we couldn’t wait to get him on board.

“It’s important to have someone you trust who is able to fit in quickly and help develop what we already have at the football club.

"We felt having at least three people in the team was a minimum requirement, so with Andy coming in to help Smudge and myself I feel we’ve got a lot of experience to draw from going forward.”
