NORTHOP HALL returned to winning ways as they defeated St Helens Town by 60 runs.

The Liverpool Competition Division Two promotion chasers won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot day at Smithy Lane.

It proved the right decision by Hall captain Dave Kennedy as he saw his side post 246 for five from 50 overs.

Alex Smith set the tone at the top of the order with 59, before Josh Andrady struck 31 in the middle order.

It was left to number six and seven - Jamie Hodgson and Jamie Griffiths - to take Hall to their sizeable total.

Hodgson struck a 74-ball 68 not out and Griffiths hit his unbeaten 36 from just 19 balls.

After the turnaround, the ever reliable Dan Clubbe bagged 4-68, including three of the visitors’ top three, before off-spinner James Hurlin took centre stage.

Hurlin helped himself to 6-41 from 16 overs as St Helens were bowled out for 186.
