CONNAH'S QUAY breathed new life into their Premier Division survival hopes with a four-wicket win over fellow strugglers Hawarden Park.

Hosts Park won the toss and elected to bat, but found life difficult despite the blue skies as Mitch Van Wyk - an early morning call up for Quay - pocketed 5-54.

Campbell Marr (32) and David Hughes (20) looked comfortable until being dismissed, while Joe Forde top scored with a typically enterprising 37 as Park were bowled out for 166, which featured 37 extras.

That total looked too small in good batting conditions, but Quay offered up plenty of opportunities which Park failed to take.

Opening duo Matt Redinger (32) and Martin Burger (56) were both dropped, as was was Van Wyk, who hit an important 28 at number five.

Ian Martin picked up 3-27 as Hawarden fought, but Quay got themselves across the line with time to spare to put pressure on Gresford, who are the side directly above the drop zone.

Brymbo did Quay a favour as they defeated hosts Gresford by 20 runs.

Gareth Boyes played a crucial knock for Brymbo, who posed 198 for eight having won the toss.

After Joss Roberts (28) and Mohamed Nilam Jayman (26) had failed to kick on, Boyes struck an important 60 as Chris Ellwood took 3-38.

Gresford's reply got off to a promising start as Matthew Thompson (37) and Daniel Williams (25) put on 59 for the first wicket before both fell to Jayman (3-20).

Matthew Cree (52) and Gareth Bell (25) steadied the ship after Gresford slipped to 95 for five, but once they departed the home side were restricted to 178 for eight.

Bottom of the table Chirk suffered another tough day at the office as they lost at Denbigh by 189 runs.

Denbigh made the most of winning the toss as they posted 319 for five, which was inspired by Sam Lewis' 105.

Joe Clayton (74 not out) and Harrison Jones (71) were also in the runs as Chirk captain Andrew Swarbrick picked up three of the wickets to fall.

The writing was on the wall after the turnaround as Chirk slipped to 11 for three, and despite Steve Kelshaw's 49, the visitors were bowled out for just 130, extras contributing 30 of them, as Lewis continued his fine day with 4-30.

Northop put more daylight between themselves and the bottom three with a 30-run home win over St Asaph.

Northop saw Tom Blackwell (35) and Ben Beaver (40) get them off to a solid start, before contributions from Gareth and Matty Williams (both 25).

The impressive Beswick then saw Northop to 215 for eight with an unbeaten 36 at number nine.

Nathanael Scott (64) led the charge for St Asaph, who reached 79 without loss only to lose all 10 wickets for 106 runs as Bart Beswick bagged a brilliant 6-18.

Leaders Menai Bridge (185-5) continued their unbeaten start to the season with a five-wicket win at Pwllheli (181-9), while Bangor (245-5) made light work of Llandudno (139) as they clinched a 106-run home win.
