Wrexham athletes enjoyed a memorable weekend competing at the Special Olympics West Midlands Regional competition in Birmingham.

Members of the Special Olympics Wrexham Athletic Club were in action against 16 other region other regional clubs in one of the biggest competitions of its type in the UK.

A string of fine performances yielded 15 golds for the club, with Jason Coles leading the way with wins in the 100m, shot and long jump to complement silver earned in the 4x100m relay.

David Bellis emerged with three individual medals and, along with clubmate Peter Bellis, won team silver win the 4x100m relay.

Fellow relay runner Greg Vickers also excelled with three golds on the day, with Peter Loftus following suit with a hat-trick of golds that included a win in the 200m.

Young athletes, Cai Williams and Dyfan Wynne both impressed in their first major regional competition, winning four medals including gold as part of the 4x50m relay along with Laura Watson and Gaynor Jones.

David Bellis emerged with three individual medals from the event and, along with Peter Bellis won team silver win the 4x100m relay

Tony Gittins triumphed in his 100m race class before following up with bronze in the 200m, with Neil Morris bagging two silvers in the 100m and shot.

Damon Hughes tasted success in the 100m sprint and long jump, Michael Jones took long jump bronze while Adam Roberts returned home with two golds and a silver.
