SAM RICKETTS has assured Wrexham supporters that Shaun Pearson or Manny Smith will not be leaving The Racecourse.

The centre-back duo have both been linked with a move to League One side Walsall, who are managed by former Reds’ boss Dean Keates.

Both players were brought to the club by Keates last summer and impressed at the heart of the defence in 2017-18, helping Wrexham keep a club record 22 league clean sheets.

Ricketts has already allowed midfielder Sam Wedgbury to leave because of personal reasons, with his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Captain Pearson and Smith are two of 12 players under contract for the 2018-19 campaign and Ricketts says no-one else will be moving on.

“Nothing in that at all,” said Ricketts.

“I think Dean Keates has signed three lads that were non-league already so it shows you what sort of thing he is looking at but nothing at all on Manny or Shaun.

“Sam was a slightly different kettle of fish but we won’t be selling any of our players.”

Wrexham return for pre-season training on Monday and Ricketts, yet to announce his assistant manager, is hoping to close in on new signings.

“There is plenty of dialogue going on, I have just come back from London, and there are offers in for a few,” added Ricketts, who has seen Alun Andrews join the Reds as the club’s new head of physical performance.
