Holywell Town have appointed former Chester City and Wales U21 defender Darren Moss as their assistant manager.

Moss, 37, brings a wealth of playing experience to the role and will link up with manager Gareth Sudlow at Halkyn Road for the club's 2018/19 season in the Cymru Alliance.

Capped six times at U21 level, Moss also enjoyed a successful playing career with Shrewsbury Town, Crewe Alexandra and Morecambe.

Moves to Bangor City, Nantwich Town and Conwy United followed later in his career before he obtained his ‘B’ Licence then moved to Cefn Druids as Assistant Manager.

Sudlow believes his new assistant will be a vital asset to the Wellmen next term, saying: "To get Mossy on board with us is absolutely fantastic work by the club.

"I’ve known Mossy for a number of years from playing for him when we were at Conwy and I know what he can offer. He is a brilliant coach and an infectious character which will help us even more going forward.

"You only have to look at his experiences of playing for Shrewsbury, Crewe, Chester and Morecambe to see the knowledge he possesses so him coming in and assisting myself and the team is a massive boost.

"He has worked with a number of the squad beforehand and so he will slot straight in. Since taking over the managerial role I have been looking to add an assistant to help myself, Andy and Sweety out and once I found out Mossy was available we had to get him on board so I’m delighted now the backroom of staff is complete and we all can’t wait to get going in pre-season.”

The club's six-game pre-season fixture schedule begins on July 14 at South Liverpool and ends at home to Llanrug United on August 4.

Six days later, the Wellmen kick-off their league campaign at home to Ruthin Town.
