SCOTT QUIGLEY is a wanted man but the striker is set to begin pre-season training with Blackpool next week.

Quigley found chances limited at Bloomfield Road last season after joining from Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints and he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Wrexham, scoring eight goals in 17 league matches.

Although he has one year left on his contract, Quigley, who only made nine substitute appearances in League One, and five starts in the Football League Trophy before arriving at Wrexham in January, does not want to be a bit-part player next season and has spoken with Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer.

New Reds’ boss Sam Ricketts admits he would be interested in signing Quigley if he was available and the frontman revealed there has been a lot of interest, but he remains a Blackpool player for now.

“If I am being honest there have been a few offers for me,” said Quigley. “About six clubs from League One and League Two, and that is not counting the National League.

“Blackpool are staying firm, I don’t think they are budging. I will be going back for pre-season and we will go from there.

“I could not tell you what is going to happen. I am a Blackpool player and I have to respect everything they say, but I hope they respect me if the gaffer does not fancy me.”

Quigley, who played under Wrexham coach Carl Darlington when the duo were at TNS, would have no qualms about heading back to north Wales.

“Everyone knows there has been interest and the connection with Carl is big,” said Quigley. “That would be a big influence.

“Carl has been good with me since coming through at TNS and he has always kept an eye on my career.”

Other clubs in the fifth tier have shown an interest but Quigley doesn’t want to be lining up against Wrexham next term.

“I don’t really want to play against Wrexham because I have got too many good memories there,” said Quigley.

“I respect the club so much for what they did for me, they did so much in that short period.

“The fans were good to me and I want to avoid playing against Wrexham

“I know it would only be two games, three if you are drawn in the cup, but I would prefer not to unless it was an offer I could not refuse.”

But Quigley insists playing football regularly comes before a big money move.

“I don’t really want to go out on loan, I want it to be permanent and start afresh,” said Quigley.

“The only thing that matters to me is I want to be someone’s number nine and play first team football so never rule anything out.

“I just want to play football over the money, it is an easy decision for me. As long as you are doing well the money comes with it.”

But the one regret about Quigley’s loan spell at Wrexham was he only scored once in nine games after manager Dean Keates left to take charge of Walsall and the Reds’ promotion challenge fell away.

“The only thing I regret was after Dean went,” added Quigley. “I scored in nearly every game, seven in the first eight games, but after he left I only got one goal.

“If Dean stayed hopefully I would have doubled my tally and helped us get into the play-offs.

“We were flying at one time so it was disappointing to miss out, we threw away too many leads.”
