SCOTT BODEN was disappointed his spell at Wrexham did not work out but he has no regrets about making the switch to The Racecourse.

Experienced striker Boden, brought in by then-Reds boss Dean Keates from Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle last summer, failed to score in his opening 17 league games in 2017-18.

The goal brought came to an end when Boden netted in Wrexham's 4-1 defeat against eventual champions Macclesfield Town in December, and he went onto enjoy a run in the side.

But he only found the back of the net on two more occasions, Boden finishing the campaign with three goals from 34 league appearances, of which 23 were starts, and he was released by new Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts.

Boden was gutted he wasn't as prolific as he was during his last spell in the fifth tier with Halifax Town - he also had a good record at this level earlier in his career at Macclesfield - and that Wrexham's promotion challenge fell away during the run-in.

"If I am being brutally honest I wish it has gone better for me personally and for the team," said Boden.

"I was hoping to come in and build on what I did the last time I played at this level but for one reason or another, things did not work out.

"But you have to look to the future, there is no point looking back and regretting things.

"That is football, the nature of the beast. I will go again and I am sure the club will go again too.

"I always say that everything happens for a reason and hopefully Wrexham get what they deserve and I do as well.

"Hopefully all parties have a good year."

Boden, who has played in the Football League for Chesterfield and Newport County, was one of seven players shown the door by former Wales international Ricketts, who has taken his first management role at The Racecourse.

Although he wasn't offered a new contract, Boden insists there are no hard feelings.

"It is part and parcel of football," said Boden. "I am old enough and experienced enough to know that things change.

"A new manager has come in and he sees fit to change make changes. That is up to him and you have to respect that.

"There are no grudges, sometimes things work and sometimes they don't.

"But when one door shuts another one opens."

Boden hasn't signed for another club as yet and remains a free agent.

"I have had a few nibbles, it is just finding something that suits me and suits the other side, and coming to an agreement," added Boden.

"People do things for differently reasons but I am of that age now and I have got a family, I don't want to be travelling two hours if I have to.

"I am sure something will be resolved soon."
