CARMEL AND DISTRICT maintained their Division Two promotion challenge with a 48-run success over visiting Buckley.

With leaders Gwersyllt Park benefitting from the fact Llangollen conceded their clash, Carmel kept their focus to remain in second spot.

Having been asked to bat first, Carmel posted 197 for six with Dafydd Bailey (55) and Oliver Saynor (37) leading the scoring as Joseph Norman bagged 3-39.

Norman continued his fine performance with 56, while Joel Sampson (34) and Sam Evans (29) were also in the runs as Buckley threatened to record victory, but Jack Whitehouse pocketed 4-37 to bowl the visitors out for 149.

Mynydd Isa made it two wins from two as they recorded a six-wicket success at Corwen, who posted 135 for six from their 45 overs.

Openers Kamran Hassan (46) and Kevin Sharp (40) impressed for Corwen, while Matty Blunden (2-11) and Danny Sprake (2-31) did the damage with the ball for Isa.

Paul Kearney was the Isa match-winner as he struck an unbeaten 48 to see the Flintshire side home inside 37 overs.

Shaun Gibson's 62 went without reward as Halkyn (156) were comfortably beaten by 10 wickets at the hands of visiting Ruthin (160-0), while Marchwiel and Wrexham (133) lost by nine wickets at the hands of Bodedern (134-1).

Northop Seconds closed the gap on Second XI Premier Division leaders Gresford Seconds with an impressive 10-wicket win at Buckley Seconds.

With Gresford out of action, Northop produced a perfect performance, bowling Buckley out for just 86, Liam Moores taking 3-0 with Chris Hinton, Matthew Mullarkey and Andrew Oates bagging two apiece.

Oates (45no) and Tom Sudder (21no) then eased Northop home inside 16 overs, 21 extras also playing their part in a comfortable away win.

Brymbo Seconds held their nerve to run out one-run winners over visiting Mochdre Seconds.

The Wrexham-based outfit could only muster 87 having won the toss, George Bourne crashing 56 of them.

But that total proved to be just enough as Elliot Hughes (3-16) and two wickets apiece for Wayne Smith, Dan Monk and Terry Jones saw Mochdre bowled out for 86, number nine Liam Herbert (24no) left stranded.

Nathan Lavender's 91 went without reward as Pontblyddyn Seconds were beaten by nine wickets at Denbigh Seconds.

Lavender was the star turn in Pont's 186 for six, but it proved in vain as Denbigh eased to 189 for one with 12 overs to spare, Jon Eccles hitting an unbeaten 85.

Eight-man Llay Welfare Seconds (99) were beaten by 104 runs by Menai Bridge Seconds (270-9), while Carmel and District Seconds (90) lost by 133 runs at Bangor Seconds (223-5).

Castell Alun are finally up and running after beating Maeshafn Argoed by eight wickets in the Second XI East Division.

Having failed to play a game until Saturday, the home side failed to show much sign of rust as they chased down Maeshafn's 184 for five with ease.

Matt Lloyd (42) and Graham Houghton (36no) combined for Maeshafn, who profited from 42 extras, but the home side were not to be denied victory.

David Lloyd (67) and Alistair Mackay (33) laid the perfect platform at the top of the order for Castell Alun, before Daniel Wright (39no) and Mike Roberts (18no) saw their side home.

Connah's Quay Seconds were seven-wicket winners over Rhewl with the only disappointment being that two players agonisingly missed out on three figures.

Liam Jones was dismissed for 99 and Gareth Evans fell on 96 as Quay cruised to 276 for three from 35 overs, before Rhewl were bowled out for 111, Chris Boden (3-2) and Matthew Dix (3-29) in the wickets.

Craig Roberts struck 88 and bagged 3-7 as Mold Seconds (265-4) beat Halkyn Seconds (105) by 160 runs, while Ethan McCarthy struck 109 as Gwersyllt Park Seconds (229) won by 121 runs at Ruthin Seconds.

In the West Division, there were wins for Abergele Seconds, Bethesda Seconds, St Asaph Seconds and Caernarfon, who beat Conwy Seconds, Llandudno Seconds, Pwllheli Seconds and Llanrwst Seconds respectively.
