Momentum is key as ‘streetwise’ Northop Hall continue their push for a league and cup double.

The Flintshire side defeated Parkfield Liscard by four wickets last weekend to climb into second place in Division Two of the Liverpool Competition, 28 points adrift of leaders Caldy, who have played a game more.

Hall followed that up by booking a place in the Flintshire Knockout final - played over two legs - against Gresford, much to the delight of captain Kennedy.

“It was a really good win against Brymbo,” said Kennedy. “We only managed to score 101, Jamie Griffiths batting sensibly to get us up to that, before we bowled well to win the game.

“We aren’t looking a bad outfit. We seem to be a little bit more streetwise than we were last year.

“We got steamrollered by Brymbo at the same stage of the Flintshire Knockout last season, but this time around it was different. The lads made sure everyone turned up on time and were ready to go.

“Everyone wanted to keep the momentum going.”

That win followed on from the low scoring success over Parkfield, who were bowled out for just 71 before Hall replied with 72 for six inside 16 overs.

Dan Clubbe bagged 7-21, including a hat-trick spread across two overs, while teenager Josh Andrady showed plenty of maturity to see Hall home with an unbeaten 29.

“Clubbe bowled very well,” reflected Kennedy.

“He just put it in the right spot and let the conditions, which were overcast, and that did the trick.

“Josh then stuck it out and saw us home, which was great.”

A trip to Southport Trinity awaits Hall this weekend, the Flintshire side scrapping out a draw and a tie with their opponents last term.

Kennedy said: “They’ve got an Australian overseas bowler (Luke Falkiner) who is up there at the top of the wicket takers with Clubbe, so he will be useful.

“We don’t know masses about them, but their pitch usually turns, which brings Josh, Jac (Kennedy) and Jimmy (James Hurlin) into the game.”

Alex Smith misses out for Hall, who will call up Dave Hodgson from the second XI, who entertain Rainford Seconds tomorrow in the league before hosting Colwyn Bay Seconds in the Tittershill Cup on Sunday.
