DAN CLUBBE was the star of the show as Northop Hall maintained their Liverpool Competition Division Two promotion push with an impressive four-wicket home win over Parkfield Liscard.

Clubbe made Parkfield’s decision to win the toss and bat look more than a touch foolish as he ran through their batting line up to finish with 7-21 and skittle the visitors for 71, Jamie Hodgson (3-35) joining him in the wickets.

Hall’s reply didn’t get off to the best start as they found themselves six for two and then 52 for six, but Josh Andrady showed composure to finish unbeaten on 29 and guide his side to victory.

The win leaves Hall second in the table, 28 points adrift of leaders Caldy and nine clear of third placed Old Xaverians - who were both beaten on Saturday - much to the delight of captain Dave Kennedy.

He tweeted: “Great 25 points for Northop Hall CC today. Four under-17s in the first team all making contributions. Up to second in the table now. Need to keep pushing on!”

Caldy were defeated by 56 runs at Maghull, who posted 190 for eight from 42.1 overs, before bowling their visitors out for just 134.

Josh Mahoney was the star for Maghull as he returned figures of 6-31 after top scoring with 40, alongside Cam Lawrenson.

Old Xaverians lost by four wickets at home to Sutton St Helens, who successfully chased down the hosts' 193 for nine declared, Adam Onion hitting a half century at the top of the order.
