OWEN SMITH stormed to victory in the International Flanders Athletics Meeting in Oordegem, Belgium.
The Flintshire raised 400m runner won his heat in a season’s best time of 46.24 secs, beating one of the Belgian Borlee brothers on the way.
The time is just one one hundredth of a second outside his PB of 46.23 and puts him seventh in the UK standings.
Smith is in fine form as he bids to secure his place at the European Championships with Great Britain.
Prior to this win, Smith, who is a former Deeside AAC member, finished second to Indoor World Championships relay team mate Grant Plenderleith at the Loughborough International.
That time of 46.63 was his second best ever as he finished just 0.03 seconds behind Plenderleith but he was even quicker on his last outing.
His next major event is on June 9 in the Geneva International Meeting where he will compete against the best athletes on the European circuit.
