CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS are set to create history with four teams qualifying for the National Finals.

After seeing the club's first team secure a place in the Welsh Cup final against Aberystwyth, the Under-12s and Under-14s won the North Wales Academy Cup.

And Nomads Under-16s made it a hat-trick of North Wales Academy Cup wins by beating Flint Town United 2-1 after extra time.

Nomads senior team will tackle Aberystwyth on Sunday, May 6, before the trio of age group sides go for glory the following day.

Director of football Jay Catton told the club's website: "It was a remarkable result on Friday night - a huge well done to coaches Iain Bennett and Mark Rowlands on a brilliant result and ensuring that, for the first time in Welsh football history, one club has made the National Final at all four levels including our first team, U-16, U-14 and U-12 age groups.

"May Bank Holiday weekend will truly be a historical time for our club and will be a great couple of days for all at the Nomads to come down and support our players and sides.

"A special mention also to Leighton Sumner, who coached this side from U-10s to U-15s moving eight players onto professional clubs alone from this group and aiding redevelopment each year.

"It's been an incredible seven year journey for a lot of Friday night's U-16s side, which also bodes very well for Nomads Academy Coleg Cambria scholarship side next year who today were officially confirmed into Category One League for next season."

Speaking about the hard-fought victory over rivals Flint Town United, coach Mark Rowlands said: "After a great season and finishing top of the group, it was important to prepare as best as we could for the North Wales Academy Cup final against Flint.

"After losing 3-1 in our previous encounter, we worked on a few things that could potentially win us the game - we knew it would be a very tough game as Flint are a very good side and it proved to be just that.

"It was fiercely competitive and after going a goal behind, the lads stayed calm and showed unbelievable desire and determination to get back into the game with a second half penalty scored by Elliot Evans.

"We were now looking to grab a late winner - we hit the post three times, but the game finished 1-1 at full time.

"In the first period of extra time, our pressure paid off after winning three corners in a row, it was Aran Jones who headed home from six yards to put us 2-1 up.

"It was an unbelievable feeling to reach the National Academy Cup final and to also have the First Team, U-12s U-14s and now U-16s in major cup finals."
