ANDY DAVIES is backing his Wrexham players to rise to the occasion and pick up a vital win at Leyton Orient tomorrow to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Wrexham find themselves out of the top-seven for the first time since September following Tuesday's results but still in contention for one of six play-off places.

But with only two games left - Wrexham entertain AFC Fylde on the final day of the season - Davies admits nothing less than three points will do against mid-table Orient as Brisbane Road.

"We will take big numbers down there and hopefully it should be a good game of football, one that the players will thrive on playing," said Davies.

"They are fired up for it. They know what the challenge is, what the task is in hand, to get three points at Orient which might just take us back in the play-offs and all of a sudden it is back in our hands.

"It is that tight and that close for everybody in there."

Wrexham could return to the top-seven with a win, especially with some of their play-off rivals coming up against each each other, and set up a potential winner-takes-all final day showdown with Fylde.

"Dropping out was disappointing because we have been in there for the majority of the season," said Davies.

"We are chasing to get in the play-offs now. Every game is the same, you want to get three points and it will be no different tomorrow.

"What we do know is if we get the three points, it could be back in our hands for the last game of the season.

"We have to concentrate on Orient and getting the win to give ourselves the best possible chance."

Back to back wins would leave Wrexham on 75 points, a tally which Davies hopes will be enough to secure a play-off spot.

"I think we have to get maximum points and that will take us really close then," said Davies.

"Looking at previous seasons and what the total has been to get in the play-offs, obviously it is different this year because there is an extra two places, but as a benchmark 75 points has been there or thereabouts.

"But anything can happen. For us it is maximum points if we can and hopefully that gets us in the play-offs and where we want to be."

Wrexham produced one of their best attacking performances of the season in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Dagenham, with missed chances proving costly, and Davies wants the the Reds to pick up where they left off at Orient.

"The way we played and the way we attacked the game will be exactly the same down at Orient because the aim is to get those three points away from home," said Davies.

"The players are positive, in a good frame of mind and ready for the challenge ahead."

Top scorer Chris Holroyd, absent for the last two games with a toe injury, is expected to miss out but could return against Fylde.

"Chris is very doubtful," added Davies. "He is our top scorer, he wants to be involved as soon as he can and it is getting better.

"If he has got any chance of the last game of the season, he is right and trained in the week, we would love him to be involved but we take that day by day."
