SHAUN PEARSON has thrown his backing behind Andy Davies and Carl Darlington.

The duo took temporary charge of Wrexham for Saturday's 2-2 draw at Woking after Dean Keates was appointed manager of Walsall the previous day.

Davies, who was assistant to Keates, and first team coach Darlington are in line to continue as the management team until the end of the season and oversee Wrexham's promotion challenge.

It is a move that Pearson would welcome and he insists the departure of Keates will not affect the players.

"Nothing is going to affect us as group," said Pearson.

"We are very close knit, that is something that Dean installed and that isn't going to disappear because the gaffer has gone.

"People still get on and it doesn't change anybody's character within the dressing room.

"We are all together and if it is Andy and Carl for the foreseeable, they would have our full support as players if that is what the club decides to do .

"The players are right behind them and I think that showed on Saturday with the performance the lads put in.

"Andy and Carl have played a big part as much as the gaffer all season anyway so we will all push on and hopefully we can repeat the performance we had on Saturday and results go with that in the last few games."

Wrexham came from behind to lead 2-1 at Woking, playing some excellent football and created a host of chances, but the Cards grabbed a late equaliser.

Pearson hailed the performance and says it was a superb response after seeing Keates leave for hometown club Walsall.

"In a strange way it helped us in a way," said Pearson.

"I know we didn't get the result we desired but I thought performance-wise we were really good for 70-75 minutes.

"We controlled the game, got it down and played some really good stuff.

"We had numerous opportunities and really should have scored one or two more, their goalkeeper had a blinder.

"It was just frustrating that we could not hang on at the end but it was a really good response from the lads and we showed what the group is about.

"We are not just going to roll over and let it slip away."

Pearson understands Keates' decision to leave Wrexham and although it came as a surprise, he says moving to a League One club was fully deserved.

"Dean has done really well," said Pearson. "They wouldn't have taken him just because it is hometown club unless he has done well.

"He deserves it and I wish him all the best.

"A couple of lads messaged me on the Thursday night asking, they think you are in the know.

"I said 'I can't see it happening,' I couldn't see it coming.

"It was totally out of the blue to me but that is football, nothing should surprise you really, but he has left us in a good position

"We have got good lads here, a good group, Andy and Carl and a good set of staff, so we are in a good position to push on and hopefully achieve what we all set out to achieve at the start of the season."
