A DECISION on Dean Keates' successor is likely to be made before the end of the week.

Keates was installed as Walsall's new manager on Friday and his assistant at The Racecourse, Andy Davies, and first team coach, Carl Darlington, were placed in temporary charge for the 2-2 draw at Woking the following day.

The club's board, who called a meeting for Sunday night, remain in talks with the duo and an announcement expected before Saturday's home match against Maidstone United on Saturday.

"We are not in a position yet to be able to say what is going to happen," said Harris.

"More discussions are taking place before we can say what we are going to do going forward.

"The recruitment process is underway and we are getting a lot of interested applicants.

"No decisions have been made yet but over the next couple of days we will be very clear on what is going to happen."

Wrexham are challenging for promotion and Harris stressed the need to make a decision as soon as possible with only eight games remaining.

And that could point to Davies and Darlington taking charge for that final run-in.

"Andy and Carl have taken the team on a temporary basis and managed the team yesterday," said Harris. "What we are doing to do going forward we have not yet finalised.

"We have to be clear with people as soon as possible.

"Everywhere in life, people like certainty and that is what we have got to bring into the club as soon as possible."

Harris admits there has been a lot of interest in the vacancy.

"Everybody in football knows Wrexham Football Club. It is not a job that needs an advert," said Harris. "It advertises itself.

"People will know Dean has left us and people will get in touch as a result of that.

"Like any recruitment process, people are interested and there are other people we might have an interest in, we are only at the beginning of that process."

On the possibility of Davies and Darlington linking up with Keates at his hometown club, Harris added: "It is our intention to retain all members of staff who are at Wrexham."

Davies is now 5/4 favourite at BetVictor to be the next permanent manager of Wrexham with Gary Brabin and Craig Bellamy on the drift to 3/1, while up and coming Welsh coach Adam Owen is 8/1.
