Young concern at sloppy Chester FC

NEIL YOUNG is keen to address the reason why his team experienced a tense conclusion to their New Year’s Day fixture.

The Chester boss admitted he was far from pleased with the attitude and commitment of his players towards the end of the Blues’ 4-3 league win at Droylsden.

Chester had looked in control during the first half after racing into a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the contest, and the Blues led 4-1 at half-time.

Young then decided to substitute club captain George Horan for Dominic Collins 10 minutes after the interval and Chester saw their advantage reduced thanks to a hat-trick by Droylsden striker James Ellison.

“Once we took George off the pitch I thought we looked very vulnerable and we weren’t working hard enough and that’s not like one of my sides so it is something that I will have to deal with.

“I had a word with the whole team after the match because if they think we’re going to go around in this league and stroll around when we want then they have got another thing coming.

“I had to give credit where credit was due to the team for their first half performance because I thought they were outstanding.

“I don’t think there is any pressure after securing our 12th successive league win, because if there is any pressure then it will come in twos, fours and so on.

“We are going to lose games of football or draw games of football, but to win 12 games on the bounce is a great achievement from the players, but we have now got to keep going.

“I’m not looking for any excuses, but to play two games against the same team within a week is very difficult, particularly against a team as good as Droylsden because I think they are in a false position with some good players and I can see them climbing the table.

“We were poor in the last 10 or 15 minutes, but there was a very good 45 minutes in that.”

Young, who is hoping he can persuade Leeds United to extend midfielder Nathan Turner’s loan deal at Chester which expired yesterday, is now preparing his players for this weekend’s league match at Bradford Park Avenue.

He added: “Nathan’s loan deal has now expired and it’s now a case of finding out whether he and Leeds United want to extend his stay at Chester.

“I thought Nathan was excellent on Tuesday, but I always wanted to give him his opportunity and I thought the Droylsden game suited him.

“Nathan is only 20 years of age but he came in for his first start on Tuesday and he finished the match with cuts and bruises all over him and with a gash on his leg, but he went out there and put a really good performance in.

“Antoni Sarcevic in the first half was unplayable and nobody could get near him, but we should have had a penalty in the lead up to the first goal when Danny Williams was blatantly fouled.

“George (Horan) and Linny (Paul Linwood) are both carrying knocks after Tuesday’s match, and Nathan got a bang.”
