Hunt: I'll play anywhere for Wrexham

JOHNNY HUNT is in line to revert back to the Wrexham midfield against Tamworth at The Racecourse tomorrow (Saturday, December 29) and he couldn’t be happier.

Known as a left-back, Hunt has been deployed as a midfielder for the majority of the season by player-boss Andy Morrell and has impressed in his new role.

Hunt dropped back into defence for Wednesday’s 4-1 win over AFC Telford United – first choice left-back Neil Ashton was suspended but returns for the visit of Tamworth – but classes midfield as his preferred position.

“I have obviously been playing in midfield a lot this season but I have always played left-back and I like playing there as well,” said Hunt.

“But in the long run, for this season I am a midfielder. I am really enjoying it in midfield, I enjoy getting forward and being part of a very good midfield three whoever plays there.

“But I will do a job for the team, I have always said I will play anywhere. I am happy to be playing

“Neil will be back against Tamworth but I didnt mind filling in. I think it makes it a bit easier for the manager that I have played left-back. He doesn’t have to put anyone out of position and obviously people can step into midfield who play in midfield.”

Hunt has been a regular in the Wrexham side this season and although he didn’t expect to start so many games, always felt he could keep his place if given the opportunity.

“No I never (thought I’d start so many games) but I knew if I got a chance, I always had confidence in my own ability to try and keep my place in the team,” said Hunt.

“The manager gave me a rest for a couple of games which I think has helped me, because we now have got a busy period I am just buzzing to be playing.

“There is nothing better than playing in a winning team that is at the top of the league playing for something.”

Victory over Telford came on the back of last Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Grimsby Town and third placed Wrexham remain four points behind the Mariners with a game in hand.

And Hunt is eager to keep the ball rolling and register another three points against Tamworth in the quest for promotion.

“We won and bounced back from Friday, and that is what we are delighted about,” added Hunt. “We have just got to keep picking points up now and hopefully win again tomorrow. At this time of the season it is just about winning."
