BLUES boss Neil Young paid tribute to his players who have put Chester six points clear of their nearest rivals.

Young was pleased to see dig deep towards the end of a 3-2 victory at Brackley Town to claim maximum points

“It’s pleasing to see how far we have come because I broke up a title-winning side in the summer - a side that won the league by 17 points,” Young said.

“We played a Brackley side on Saturday without two lads who were sidelined with suspensions and another two or three lads feeling ill.

“To have only lost one league game so far this season is fantastic for all the lads, but nobody wins anything in December.

“Having looked at Brackley and seen what they have already done I believe they are going to be there or thereabouts.

“Guiseley and FC Halifax Town are stepping up the pace along with a few other clubs - all we can do is keep winning our games, but if we continue to put a shift in like we did at Brackley then we’ll take some stopping.

“We have beaten everyone around us which is great credit to the players.

“It is important to beat those teams near the top of the league table, but also to pick up wins against those sides at the foot of the league table because that’s when you can become complacent.

“We’ve had a great start to the season but we’re under no illusions about how difficult this league is and the good sides that are involved.”
