A MAN has been crushed to death in an accident at a factory.

Christopher Williams, 51, from Marlbrook, Acrefair, was working as a maintenance supervisor at Morgan Technical Ceramics on the Vauxhall Industrial Estate in Ruabon.

Health and Safety Executive staff are now investigating the death along with North Wales Police officers, but it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances.

Acting North East Wales coroner John Gittins confirmed  an inquest  into Mr Williams’ death had been opened.

He said a post-mortem examination carried out by pathologist Dr Brian Rogers gave a provisional cause of death as severe crush injuries to the chest.

The inquest was adjourned until a later date.

Staff at Morgan Technical Ceramics, a division of the Morgan Crucible Company, paid tribute to Mr Williams.

A spokesman said: “It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Chris Williams, the maintenance supervisor of Morgan Technical Ceramics, Ruabon.

“Our thoughts are with Mr Williams’ family, friends and co-workers at Ruabon at this very difficult time.

“Mr Williams, 51, who worked for the company for 15 years, was fatally injured while working at the Ruabon facility on the morning of Monday, December 3.

“An investigation by the police and the Health and Safety Executive, working closely with our internal management, is under way.

“We take the health and safety of our employees very seriously and we will ensure that the circumstances surrounding this incident are fully understood and all possible measures taken to prevent further such incidents in the future.

“On behalf of everyone at Morgan Crucible, we offer our sincere condolences to Mr William’s immediate family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.”

Wales Ambulance Service staff turned out to the scene and a North Wales Police spokesman said: “We were called to the site at 9.53am on Monday.

“There were no suspicious circumstances and the Health and Safety Executive is investigating.”

HSE staff confirmed they were working alongside the police.
