Five alive as Airbus put Port in their place

Airbus stylishly returned to winning ways as they disposed of Port Talbot Town 5-0.

Prior to the game Airbus director of football Andy Preece admitted that his side had been unlucky to lose back-to-back matches against Carmarthen and Bangor and that their performances had warranted more.

And the former Wrexham striker's players proved him right as they opened up a 2-0 lead by half-time through Wayne Riley and Jordan Johnson.

Mike Hayes made it three straight after the restart and Riley and Steve Abbott found the net inside 11 minutes to complete the rout.

The victory left Preece, who handed Richie Partridge his debut from the substitutes bench, happy, admitting on the club's website: "It was a really good performance, it has to be against Port Talbot.

"The first 25 or 30 minutes it was really tight, Port Talbot showed what a good side they are, but some of the football we played – especially in the second-half – was great to watch.

"It was a little bit slippery but it didn't cut up as much as it sometimes does here, so I don't think that the conditions played too big a part.

"I thought some of our passing movement and some of the goals we scored were really good quality.

"Sometimes people say we are pretty direct, but there was nothing direct about us, we mix the game up and showed that today."

Unfortunately for Airbus their victory will be overshadowed by Carmarthen's stunning 3-0 victory over reigning champions The New Saints at Park Hall.

Paul Fowler handed the Old Gold the lead after just three minutes before Nicky Palmer doubled the advantage a quarter of an hour later.

Home fans expecting a comeback by Saints were left hugely disappointed as Carmarthen held firm immediately after the restart before Liam Thomas added a third goal 15 minutes from time.

Bangor City climbed to the top of the table after they edged it 3-2 at basement outfit Afan Lido.

Sion Edwards saw his opening goal cancelled out by Lido's Chris Hartland as the two sides went into the break level.

Ex-Chester full-back Liam Brownhill restored the Bangor lead and an own-goal from Lido goalkeeper Chris Curtis left the Citizens in control.

Kieron Howard pulled a goal back for Lido but Bangor, who have parted company with midfielder Craig Garside, were able to see out the game to secure a valuable three points.

Nine-man Prestatyn produced a battling display to record a 1-0 home success over Bala Town.

Mike Parker scored the only goal of the game for Prestatyn, who were forced to play the final 18 minutes of the match two men light following the dismissals of player/boss Neil Gibson and Gareth Wilson.

Gap Connah's Quay saw their winning run ended by a 3-0 defeat at Aberystwyth Town.

Nomads went into the encounter full of confidence and that showed during the early exchanges, Alan Hooley missing a glorious chance to open the scoring before his low cross struck the arm of Aber defender Gavin Cadwallader for what could have been a penalty.

Aber's opening goal came on the stroke of half-time as the home side broke at pace and forced a corner from which Cledan Davies beat John Rushton at his near post.

Jordan Follows doubled the Aber lead after Rushton fumbled a cross from Davies and Declan Carroll completed the scoring after good work from Follows.

Nomads were denied a penalty when Rhys Healey was fouled in the box, although they were rewarded for their pressure when they were handed a spot-kick in stoppage time.

Midfielder Rob Jones took the penalty, but was unable to beat Mike Lewis from 12-yards and Nomads had nothing to show for their efforts.

Newtown and Llanelli remain in the bottom six as they shared the points following a 1-1 draw at Latham Park.

Lloyd Grist handed Llanelli a first-half lead, but defender Andy Jones grabbed a point for Newtown with a 54th minute effort.
