PLAYER-BOSS Andy Morrell admitted he has a more-than- welcome selection dilemma now his strikers are hitting some form.
Morrell scored a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Rushall Olympic as Wrexham progressed to the second round of the FA Trophy while Adrian Cieslewicz also scored for the second game in a row.
Danny Wright - rested for the visit of Rushall - Brett Ormerod and Nick Rushton, both of whom were named on the substitutes bench as Morrell opted to ring the changes, were all on target in Tuesday's 5-1 victory at Braintree Town and the Reds' player-boss couldn’t be happier with his frontmen.
“It was only Rob Ogleby that never scored and I thought he played really well, and he created a couple as well,” said Morrell. “That is two goals in two games for Adrian now which is good.
“I am always telling him to get in between the posts. If he gets in between the posts more often than not he will get goals and he has done that.
“I am pleased for me to be among the goals. It is nice to score a few and keep ticking over. Whoever plays next game will be bang in form.
“They are good options to have. Everybody is scoring. I would have rather have that than nobody scoring or just one because then you are picking out of a hat sort of thing.
“I have always wanted six strikers, at the start of the season you probably would have looked and said Nick might not want to start but he has come to the fore.
“Now I believe I have got six good strikers and I can pick any of them, they are going great.”
Right-back Declan Walker scored the fifth goal in Saturday's first round win against Northern Premier Division side Rushall and Morrell, who took his tally for the season to five thanks to his hat-trick, is pleased players from all positions are scoring.
“We were trying to work it out and I think it is probably 18 out of 22 outfield players who have scored this season or something like that and I quite like that stat, it is a good one,” added Morrell.
“Goals are coming from everywhere but importantly, strikers are scoring as well.”
Having scored two early goals and looking for his hat-trick, Morrell feared he was going to be substituted by assistant Billy Barr but it was Cieslewicz and Ogleby who made way for Ormerod and Rushton with 10 minutes remaining.
“He's done it before!” said Morrell. “I saw both strikers coming on and I was like 'that had better not be one for me'.
“I needed 90 minutes under my belt, it was nice to get that and nice to get a couple of goals.
“But more importantly we are into the hat and we will take it from there.”
Wrexham now have three league games before the second round of the FA Trophy, with the Reds heading to Kidderminster Harriers and Alfreton before playing host to Nuneaton.
And while he admitted they will be difficult matches, starting with Saturday's clash at Kidderminster, Morrell is looking forward to continuing the promotion challenge.
“We have got three tough games coming up and we have got to be ready, added Morrell, whose second placed side are on the same amount of points as leaders Grimsby Town but do have a game in hand.
“They are two tough away trips there and we are looking forward to them because we have got a little bit of momentum now with two wins and a draw in the last three games. I think all the lads will be raring to go and be ready.”
