MARC WILLIAMS has emphasized Chester’s hope of putting pressure on their nearest rivals.

The 24-year-old Blues striker is determined to play his part in a third consecutive title campaign and push Chester into the Conference Premier Division.

Williams experienced life in the division above with Wrexham and Kidderminster Harriers before joining Chester earlier this year.

“We don’t want to get too complacent and I don’t think we’ll be allowed to be because of our management staff,” he said.

“It’s always about doing a job whenever we play and working hard. We know that any game won’t just be given to us on a plate.

“We want to be in a position where we are 10 points clear at the top and then everyone will look at us and think they won’t catch us.

“It would be nice to carve a big gap at the top and put teams in a position of admitting defeat.

“It is always a big push before Christmas, but if we can open a gap then that would be great. But if that doesn’t happen then we’ll keep battling because our main aim is to be promoted.”

Williams, Nathan Jarman, and Tony Gray are spearheading the Blues attack, and the Welshman admitted he had been pleased to see a number of different players getting themselves on the scoresheet so far this season.

He added: “It’s been great to see every department chipping in with our goal tally so far this season.

“Our midfielders have been playing their part, and the defenders get the odd goal, but I think that’s what has been good about us.

“We are not relying on one striker to score 25 goals a season, but I’m sure we will finish the season with one or two players on 10 goals apiece, and someone in the end who might score 15.

“It worked for us last season so I don’t see any reason why it can’t work for us again this term.

“It’s pleasing that the trend has continued and it underlines that we are playing a team game and that there is no individual in the Chester team.

“We have a good squad and the gaffer will use every player and that will put us in a great position to go and win the league.

“Players on our bench would start for any side in our division which shows we have a great squad and that’s the reason why we are doing so well at the top of the league table.

“I’m not too much into the banter of scoring goals at the minute because I haven’t scored too many, but as soon as I do then I will have a few things to say.

“I’m hiding away from all that sort of talk at the moment, but I’ll definitely start any banter in terms of making assists.

“It would be nice to score a few more goals, but I think it is important that everyone contributes.”

Williams also revealed he had been impressed with the recent performances of Chester’s experienced shot-stopper John Danby.

He said: “John is a great goalkeeper and I have seen a lot of him at the Deva Soccer School across the road from the ground.

“I don’t normally want to see him as busy as he was on Saturday against Histon, but he made a number of great saves and he has done that several times for us already this season.”

The Blues are still sweating on a fixture this weekend as their scheduled opponents Harrogate saw their FA Cup clash with Hyde postponed last night due to a waterlogged pitch. That tie has been re-arranged for tonight.
