PLAYER-MANAGER Andy Morrell insists he has enough bodies to cope with Wrexham’s busy league and cup schedule between now and the end of the year but would add to his squad if the right person became available.
Wrexham entertain Alfreton Town in the FA Cup first round on Saturday and also begin their FA Trophy campaign in November, with the next round of both competitions due to be played before Christmas.
Ten league matches, including the game at Braintree Town which was called-off on Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch but has to be played within six weeks if possible, are also packed into the fixture list.
Although striker Brett Ormerod is out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury, Morrell hopes to call upon frontman Rob Ogelby and centre-back Martin Riley against Alfreton and is happy with the amount of players he has available at present.
“The Braintree one was a bit of a pain but that’s the way it is and we just have to play it within six weeks,” said Morrell
“It is going to be a little bit of a busy time for us but, equally, we are quite good when we have a run of games because we just get on with it and I am quite looking forward to it.
“There is the FA Trophy thrown in there as well so if something comes about that takes my fancy, I might do something, but I am fairly happy at the minute.
“Again, if we brought somebody in they probably wouldn’t be able to play in the FA Cup but we will keep our eyes open.
“We are not in any desperate hurry. If we can we will but if not, then I am happy with what we have got.
“With Rob coming back, he replaces Brett so that gives us the five strikers again so there is no issue.
“A fair few of the lads played in the reserve game yesterday so they got a run-out which is good for them. Danny Alfei had a run-out because he can’t play on Saturday.”
But Morrell made no secret of the fact he hopes Wrexham can beat Alfreton at the first time of asking and reach the second round of the FA Cup without needing a replay.
“I would rather just get it out of the way and go through, as soon as we can,” said Morrell. “If we have to have a replay, then fair enough, but I would just like to get it done and dusted on Saturday if we can.”
Ogleby, hampered by an ankle injury which has ruled him out of the last four matches, returned to full training yesterday while Morrell is hoping Riley will recover from a hamstring problem and also get a couple of sessions under his belt before the weekend.
“Rob trained with us yesterday and got through that. We will just have a check on how he is,” said Morrell.
“I think he is going to feel it a little bit. He has just got to try and get through that first initial couple of days training.
“Martin has done some running again and he is hoping to join in tomorrow so maybe we can get a couple back for Saturday, fingers crossed.”
Glen Little remains sidelined but Morrell hopes to have the experienced midfielder available soon.
“Glen is taking longer than we thought and he is getting a bit down about it now,” added Morrell. “But these things take time, especially when you are a bit older as well.
“He has been out for a run and bits and bobs but still not that confident in it. He can’t be too far away I am sure because he did it against Dartford a month ago.”
