Airbus and Gap Connah's Quay went goal crazy as they recorded victories over Newtown and Afan Lido respectively.

The Flintshire duo scored 13 goals between them on a prolific Saturday afternoon with their opponents also finding the net on five occasions.

Airbus were the most convincing winners as they recorded a new record win with a 7-1 thumping of Newtown.

Home victories over Welshpool and Haverfordwest had previously earned a place in the Wingmakers' record books, but those 5-0 successes were dwarfed by a superb away performance.

Steve Abbott started the scoring as he converted a cross from Lee Owens, before the former Wrexham man went close with another effort.

Ex-Chester midfielder Tom Field doubled the visiting side’s lead, which quickly increased as Ian Kearney fired home after beating the home defence to an inswinging free-kick.

On-loan Wrexham defender Steve Tomassen netted his second goal of the season, heading home from a corner to leave Airbus four goals to the good at the interval.

Former Airbus striker Craig Whitfield reduced the arrears quickly after the restart, but any faint hopes of a remarkable comeback were extinguished as Chris Budrys struck a fifth for the away side.

Abbott, who had a goal disallowed earlier in the match, doubled his personal tally after beating Shane Sutton, and he completed his hat-trick by tapping home at the far post from a Jordan Johnson shot.

In netting his third goal Abbott became only the second hat-trick man in Welsh Premier League history for Airbus.

Airbus’ chief operating officer Stewart Roberts expressed his delight with the outcome on his Twitter feed, writing: “7-1 away from home can't grumble could have been 10! Keyo (Ryan Wade), Budrys, Abbott tearing them apart! Great performance all over the pitch.”

Whitfield scored against his former side but failed to enjoy a gruelling 90 minutes, admitting: “A game to forget.”

Connah’s Quay continued their fine start to the season with a 6-4 home success over Afan Lido.

The game was evenly matched until Nomads enjoyed nine prolific second half minutes, in which they netted three times.

Jamie Petrie and Dean Canning twice handed Quay the lead, but Afan Lido hit back to leave the game all-square at the interval, Luke Borrelli and Mark Jones on target.

Nomads found top gear between the 55th and 64th minute, Canning doubling his tally for the game before Gary O’Toole netted twice in quick succession.

Youngster Rhys Healey bagged his second goal of the season to open up a 6-2 advantage for Nomads with six minutes later.

The result was never in doubt at this stage but player/boss Mark McGregor, who labelled the match as ‘one for the fans’ will have been disappointed as Borrelli and Jones both struck in the final three minutes to take some gloss off the scoreline.

Bala Town finally picked up their first win of the season – and in turn climbed off the foot of the table – courtesy of an impressive 3-0 home victory over Carmarthen Town.

Striker Lee Hunt opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match and doubled the advantage 18 minutes later.

Ex-Crewe midfielder Kenny Lunt made the points safe for Bala with a third goal of the game seven minutes before the break.

Replacing Colin Caton's men at the bottom of the table are Aberystwyth Town, who were comfortably beaten 2-0 at home by Llanelli.

Summer signing Martin Rose scored either side of the break for Andy Legg's side to make sure they came away with all three points.

The New Saints moved back to the top of the league with a 3-0 triumph over visiting Bangor City.

An Alex Darlington strike separated the two teams at the interval before former Chester man Michael Wilde struck five minutes after the break.

Chris Seargeant put the game beyond doubt with a third goal nine minutes from time.

Prestatyn slipped to second place on goal difference as they were held 1-1 at home by Port Talbot.

Former Football League ace Jason Price handed Prestatyn a sixth minute lead but that was cancelled out by David Brooks.
