Buckley were celebrating the Division Two league title as they defeated Gwersyllt Park by 27 runs.

A crucial knock of 66 from Mike Lewis helped Buckley, who had extras second top score with 14, make their way to 121 despite two wickets apiece from James Crowe, Ian Pearson and Wayne Evans.

The Buckley bowling attack did the business with the ball, James Blackwell (4-12) and Simon Nicholls (4-37) seeing Gwersyllt all out for 94, Evans top scoring with 32.

Bodedern finished level on points with Buckley but were forced to settle for second place as they defeated Northop 2nds by seven wickets.

Northop posted what looked like a challenging 146 with Bart Beswick leading the scoring with 40 as Leighton Williams picked up 4-42.

In reply, Tom Allman picked up 3-12, but the damage was done as Gareth Thomas struck a 68-ball 89 to help Bodedern to 149-3 inside 28 overs.

The defeat left Northop sweating on their Division Two status, although a 30 run defeat for Carmel and District at Bethesda saw the Pen-y-Gelli outfit relegated instead.

Andrew Skates (4-21) led the way for Carmel with the ball as Bethesda post 215, Huw Pritchard (61) top scoring.

Skates then starred with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 65, but with wickets tumbling around him Carmel were dismissed for 185.

Basement outfit Brymbo 2nds ended a disappointing campaign with a 27 run loss at Dolgellau.

Dolgellau stamped their authority on proceedings by posting 259-5, before Brymbo came close to a successful run chase, ending on 232-9 thanks to runs from Shashika (80) and Matthew Griffiths (50no).

Bersham ended their campaign with a seven wicket win over Rhewl, and in turn replaced them in fifth spot.

Rhewl posted 171-9 before Bersham cruised to 172-3.

Hawarden Park 2nds clinched promotion from Division Three – but Ruthin showed why they finished as runaway champions by crusing to a 124-run success.

Nathan Aldridge led the way for Ruthin as he struck another century in his team’s 277-3.

Park set off at a brisk pace with Jamie MacDonald hitting 43, but other than that Ruthin were able to work their way through the visitors’ batting line-up to bowl them out for 153, Aldridge taking five wickets.

Park were left celebrating promotion courtesy of Carmel and District 2nds’ 64 run success over Bala, who finished in fourth place.

A knock of 44 from Oliver Saynor helped Carmel recover from 11-2 to post 113 all out, Gwyndaf Hughes (4-45), Joe Evans (3-25) and Sion Hughes (2-4) impressing with the ball for Bala.

Barry Mcgauty then stole the show for Carmel, bagging 6-8 to see Bala skittled for just 49.

Despite their success Carmel were left downbeat as they were relegated to Division Four along with Anglesey Aluminium, who lost to Llay Welfare by eight wickets.

Mike Wright (5-11) and Phil Bray (3-14) saw Anglesey rolled out for 92, Luke Edwards left stranded on 30 not out as wickets fell with alarming regularity at the other end.

Llay then eased their way to 93-2 inside 26 overs with Stefan Marshall (38no) and Dan Buck (33) doing the bulk of the damage.

Shotton picked up the points then needed to avoid a surprising relegation, beating Mold 2nds by seven wickets.

Bryn Owen (4-14), Simon Harris (3-26) and Andrew Lund (2-11) did the business with the ball for Shotton as Mold were bowled out for 111, Adrian Forster hitting 35 of his side’s total.

Kenny Evans and Leslie Roberts did the rest for Shotton, both finishing on 29 not out to see the visitors home with 21 overs remaining.

Mynydd Isa ended their campaign with a two wicket win at Gresford 2nds after bowling the home side out for 148, Ian Dixon, Danny Sprake and Dave Brilley with two wickets apiece.

Chris Geary then anchored the Isa reply to help see them over the finishing line, the skipper eventually dismissed for 60, but by then the damage had been done.

Matt Daulby (3-26) and Jack Bunkell (3-42) impressed with the ball for Gresford.
Denbigh 2nds (208-7) were also winners as they defeated St Asaph 2nds (149-9) by 59 runs.

Castell Alun were unable to derail Llangollen’s Division Four promotion party as the visiting side wrapped up a one run win to finish in second place.

Owen Cornford (39) and Gareth Rigden (28) helped Llangollen to 138-8 from 45 overs, Daniel Lockett, Mike Arden and Miles Gillespie picking up two wickets apiece.

Rigden then picked up 5-25, and with Luke Gardner taking 3-37, Castell Alun were bowled out for 137, Julian Plunkett hitting 36 of his team’s total.

Tata Steel Shotton survived relegation as they secured a 41-run victory over Llanrwst 2nds and Abergele 2nds, who ended up in the bottom two, were beaten by Mochdre 2nds by 134 runs.

Despite 6-39 from Aron Hughes, Tata Steel Shotton posted 155 from 42 overs, before they halted Llanrwst on 114-5 in reply.

Buckley 2nds finished in fourth spot as they picked up a four run win over Llandudno 3rds, posting 139 all out before restricting their hosts to 135.

Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nds ended an encouraging campaign with a 64 run triumph over Menai Bridge 3rds.

Neal Wellens struck a half century as Marchwiel reached 145-9 regardless of 5-36 by Menai’s Rhys Dart.

Chris Hemmings (3-18) and James Spencer (3-19) then did the business with the ball to see Menai bowled out for just 81.

Bersham 2nds conceded their scheduled encounter against Conwy 2nds.

Division Five will need close attention during the close season with just three of seven matches completed on the final weekend.

Shotton 2nds, Rhewl 2nds and Llangollen 2nds were forced to concede matches at home to Ruthin 2nds, Halkyn 2nds and Chirk 2nds respectively, while Gwersyllt Park 2nds cancelled their match against Anglesey Aluminium 2nds.

In the completed matches, already promoted Northop 3rds suffered a 50-run loss at Corwen.

Alastair Andrady grabbed 4-26 as Corwen posted 126-8, Martin Evans-Jones (46) and Llyr Jones (33no) amongst the runs.

Northop were then bowled out for a disappointing 76, Jordan Williams finishing with 4-28 as Phil Evans (17) top scored.

Nine man Tata Steel Maeshafn produced a battling display in their three wicket loss at Dolgellau 2nds.

Tom Hall (19) and Peter Ford (17) were able to help Maeshafn to 61 all out, before Hall took 5-13 as Dolgellau made hard work of reaching 62, eventually finishing with seven wickets back in the shed.

Bethesda 2nds (114-5) were also winners as they defeated Bodedern 2nds (113) by five wickets.

North Wales cricket needs a shot in the arm! It is time to consider regionalisation below the Premier Division i.e Divisions West & East. This would prevent excessive travelling particularly in the context of spiralling fuel costs. This would also help to ensure that certain clubs fulfil away fixtures with the full complement of 11 players! Second & third teams should be placed within the same divisions and not play first XI teams.
