Former Crusaders star in legal action threat

A FORMER player with rugby Super League side Crusaders is threatening to take legal action over loss of income.

Keith Senior joined the now defunct Wrexham club shortly before it pulled out of applying to continue to compete in Super League.

A new and different club has since been formed in Wrexham under different management and it plays as the North Wales Crusaders.

In February the Leader reported Mr Senior was looking at the possibility of going to court after finding himself out of a job when the original Crusaders club shut down.

Mr Senior has retained the services of lawyer Stephen Heath, head of sport media and entertainment law at Yorkshire-based Eatons Solicitors.

Mr Heath has released a statement saying legal action against the Rugby Football League (RFL) looks to be a certainty.

He said: “My job is to make those responsible accountable for the fact Keith was without a club for the season with no income.”

In a statement the RFL says: “While it is understandable Mr Senior is distressed at the circumstances of his personal arrangements with Crusaders RL, it is wholly wrong to try to implicate the RFL in what were private two-party discussions between himself and the club.

“Throughout the existence of Crusaders RL, the RFL acted entirely appropriately as the sport’s governing body, providing practical support and assistance to the club.

“The timing of the latest comments is also surprising. Mr Senior’s legal advisers have not been in contact with the RFL for more than three months.

“The RFL has co-operated fully with the club’s liquidator and will continue to be completely transparent as to its role at Crusaders RL.”

Geoff Moss, a former co-owner of Crusaders, said he could not comment for legal reasons.
