WREXHAM ended the Aggborough hoodoo that has haunted them since relegation to the Conference by finally beating Kidderminster Harriers on their own patch.
In the previous three seasons at this level, Wrexham have lost on each occasion at Kidderminster and failed to even score a goal in the process.
But that all changed last night as Wrexham ran out 1-0 winners thanks to player-manager Andy Morrell’s 10th goal of the season.
A third victory in a row ensured second-placed Wrexham maintained their promotion challenge and remain hot on the heels of leaders Fleetwood Town who were 6-2 winners at home to Ebbsfleet last night.
However, Wrexham were made to work hard for their first win at Kidderminster since 2003.
The first half was edged by Wrexham who made better use of the ball and looked more likely to open the scoring.
Wrexham were more of a threat in front of goal and they were rewarded for their efforts when Morrell broke the deadlock in stoppage time.
Play-off chasing Kidderminster made a real fight of it after the break and dominated the game but they were lacking clear cut scoring chances and Wrexham defended superbly to ensure they held on to their lead.
Wrexham still had opportunities to extend their advantage as they had more of a cutting edge in the final third but the one goal was enough in the end.
It was a hard fought victory but Wrexham were always expecting a tough test at Aggborough and they came through it with flying colours.
This was a workmanlike performance from Wrexham who had the more quality and dug in when it mattered to get the result.
With Fleetwood also winning, it was important for Wrexham to try and match their promotion rivals and the Reds trail the leaders by two points but with a game in hand.
Wrexham have 14 matches remaining in their quest for the title and they will be targeting a fourth win a row at Stockport County on Saturday.
After Wrexham returned to action following a three-week break with a comfortable 4-1 home win over Hayes and Yeading United at the weekend, it was no surprise to see Morrell name an unchanged side.
The player-boss also kept faith with the same substitutes bench despite seeing midfielder Jamie Tolley return to training after missing out on Saturday because of illness, although skipper Dean Keates (thigh) and striker Danny Wright (elbow) were not considered.
The first chance fell to Wrexham after six minutes following a mistake in the Harriers defence, Jake Speight won the ball and fed Morrell who played in Adrian Cieslewicz but he fired wide of the target.
With both sides attempting to gain the upper hand, Wrexham were seeing a lot of the ball and got into some promising positions when they broke forward.
Danny Alfei cut out a Harriers attack and found Cieslewicz who was allowed to run from his own goal before bringing a comfortable save out of keeper Tony Breeden while Speight's effort was also easily saved by the shot stopper following Neil Ashton's free-kick.
Harriers' first sight of goal came after 21 minutes on the break but Anthony Malbon's low drive was always going wide, while Wrexham immediately went upfield and Speight cut inside before bringing a smart save out of the stretching Breeden.
Starting to enjoy a bit more possession, it was Harriers who almost took the lead on the half hour mark following their best spell when Joslain Mayebi failed to cut out Nick Wright's corner but Luke Jones' header was cleared off the line by Joe Clarke.
Back came Wrexham and Clarke's 25-yard drive easily found the arms of Breeden but the keeper was wrong footed when Steve Leslie's 41st minute free-kick deflected off the wall and struck the post, with Harries clearing the loose ball.
Wrexham looked the side more likely to score and the opening goal arrived in added time after Speight earned a free-kick following another spat with Lee Vaughan.
Ashton's free-kick was nodded down in the box and Nat Knight-Percival's effort fell into the path of Morrell who found the back of the net from close range.
Speight blasted a wild shot well wide of the target at the start of the second half but Harriers began to up the tempo and Jack Byrne's header from Wright's corner struck the bar.
Don Bradley's long range drive finished well wide and Jamille Matt was also off target for Harriers who were keeping the pressure on but were unable to break down Wrexham's resolute back line.
Despite dominating the half, Harriers were unable to make the most of their possession and lacked quality with the final ball into the box.
Wrexham were still looking for a second goal and substitute Mathias Pogba won a corner with a deflected shot after 74 minutes, while Leslie was not that far away with a curling free-kick.
It was almost 2-0 when Alfei's cross was nodded back across goal by Morrell and Speight's header found the roof of the net.
Time was running out for Kidderminster but Wrexham were in no mood to sit back and Pogba's injury time drive was saved by Breeden.
Kidderminster failed to score an equaliser and Wrexham returned home with maximum points.
