GOALKEEPER Danny Ward has completed a dream move to Liverpool.
Ward underwent a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex over the weekend and has joined the Premier League giants for an undisclosed fee.
Under the terms of the transfer, Liverpool will pay an initial fee - believed to be in the region of £100,000 - with additional payments due upon Ward breaking into the Anfield first-team.
The 18-year-old did not make a first-team start for Wrexham, although he did play in the Welsh Cup defeat against Airbus last month.
A Welsh Under-19 international, Ward had been with Wrexham since the age of 14 and made his Conference debut whilst on loan with Tamworth last season.
“It’s a great move for Danny,” said Morrell. “We would have liked him to stay but the chance to sign for a top Premiership club was too good for him to turn down.
“He goes with all our best wishes and it would be great to see him playing top flight football in the not too distant future.”
Morrell, who signed winger Steven Leslie from Shrewsbury Town on a contract through to the end of the season on Friday, is hoping to bring in a striker before the transfer window closes to compensate for the loss of Danny Wright who will be sidelined for at least a month with a dislocated elbow.
“I am trying to get another body in just to help us out up top,” added Morrell. “Danny will be out for four weeks plus so another striker will give us more options.
“I am gutted for Danny. He was injured, came back and did really well against Brighton and then he got this nasty injury.
“It is disappointing but that is the hand we have been dealt so we have to get on with it.”
