A MOTHER-of-two is calling for the council to trim back grass verges which conceal a dangerous junction near Brymbo.

Natalie Edwards, 34, of Higher Berse Road is concerned about the junction where Higher Berse Road meets Heritage Way.

She says that hedges, tall grass and trees mean that drives cannot see to pull out of the junction safely, especially with cars travelling 60mph down Heritage Way.

Ms Edwards said: “Coming up to the crossroads on Heritage Way it is the national speed limit.

“There are signs to tell people to slow down but no-one ever does.

“There are high hedges blocking the view when trying to pull out of Higher Berse Road onto Heritage way and the council have cut a bit back, but it’s made no difference.

“It’s an on-going problem.”

Ms Edwards has witnessed many accidents and near misses at the junction, some involving her own family.

She said: “My brother had an accident because he couldn’t see when pulling out of the junction and a car went into the side of him.

“My mum has also been spat at and screamed at for pulling out on people because they don’t understand that it’s not your fault and you can’t see.

“It’s like pulling out onto a dual carriageway with a blindfold on.”

Ms Edwards has contacted the council to report the problem and says that while she is awaiting action, she wants to spread awareness about the danger of this junction with other residents.

She explained: “A lot of people come down Higher Berse Road as a cut- through, so it can get busy.

“I’ve had so many near misses that I avoid the junction now when taking my children to school, adding 30 minutes onto my journey.

“It takes longer, but it’s safer.”

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The cutting on the junction cited by Ms Edwards has been inspected by officers and added to our programme of works.

“However, speeding and the enforcement of speed limits are a matter for North Wales Police.”
