THE FUTURE of Wrexham's Citizen's Advice (CAB) service remains in doubt after its referral to the executive board.

As the issue of funding falls under the remit of the executive board, there was no decision over the future of the CAB made at a full council meeting on Wednesday..

Cllr Dana Davies and the Labour group accepted that this was the right decision, but had concerns nonetheless.

Cllr Davies said: "I am disappointed that this decision will be referred to the executive board. It is clear that without financial support the citizens advice in Wrexham will close and this will have a detrimental effect on our most vulnerable citizens in Wrexham.

"This council would need to do a lot of work to make the current level of service available to all.

"The cost to this council will be substantial in a time when budgets are being squeezed."

Cllr Davies suggested that the council should offer a grant of £50,000 to avoid the imminent closure of the CAB and that the council should review the viability of the CAB next year.

The executive board meets on June 12.
