A STRIKEFORCE that powered the Reds to promotion are set to reunite for a fundraising event.

Andy Morrell and Lee Trundle, whose goals in the 2002-03 season helped secure promotion to League Two, are the latest names to join a Wrexham AFC vs Cefn Druids legends match at the Rock on July 21, in aid of the Team Jaxon campaign.

Jon Morris, event organiser and Cefn Druids physio, said: "To get these two guys in to play is just fantastic, but we're hoping that announcing these two guys is going to get so many people through the gate - which ultimately raises money for Team Jaxon."

Gareth and Danielle Langford, of Heol y Ffynnon in Bradley, set up the fund to help charities and good causes that supported their son Jaxon, who died in August 2017 aged six after a two-year battle with cancer.

Jaxon was guest of honour at last year's match - which raised funds for the youngster - and received a rapturous reception from supporters when he came onto the pitch at half-time to meet players and coaches.

Jon told how Jaxon's face lit up when he was brought onto the pitch at half time, adding that news of Jaxon's death just weeks later was "heartbreaking".

He resolved to help the Team Jaxon campaign after hearing about the idea from Gareth late last year.

Jon joined Gareth in the Chester Half Marathon last month, and will also join Gareth, Danielle and a group of runners for the Helena Tipping Wrexham 10K on July 29.

Gareth and Jon will also take on the Chester Marathon in October, and several other fundraising events organised by members of the community are in the works.

He added: "I'm quite privileged to be able to help Team Jaxon and be part of it in any way I can."

Former Liverpool and Wrexham striker Lee Jones will manage the Reds Legends, assisted by Racecourse favourite Gary Bennett and former midfielder Nick Hencher.

A host of Reds favourites from yesteryear are due to take part, including former Wales forward Neil Roberts, defender Mark Creighton, midfielder Gareth Owen, forward Karl Connolly - who also turned out for Cefn Druids - and Robin Gibson, whose goal helped Wrexham dump then-Premier League side Middlesborough out of the FA Cup in a 2-1 win at the Racecourse in 1999.

Gareth Owen will also perform an acoustic musical set in the clubhouse after the match.

Jon said that there were more names yet to be announced, and added: "The interest we're getting from people on social media is unbelievable.

"It's been a good footballing year for Druids and we're just hoping we can finish off with a great charity event."
